10/10 An Excellent Coach and Instructor

I went to Ryan's class twice while I was in town visiting and one thing really impressed me: the way he treated all of his clients. He makes everyone feel like they are personally welcome and appreciated. Like almost all RKC-based schools there is a terrific balance of structure and flexibility that will challenge beginners and advanced students alike. Ryan's facility is also impressive: clean and spacious with showers and plenty of equipment for everyone. But the most important criteria for judging a school (to me) is the students themselves, and Ryan's other students reflected well on his coaching and guidance. My sister who has been attending his class talked him way up before I even went, so my expectations were high to begin with. Ryan is recommended without reservation.

I was sucked into kettle bell class midwinter 2011 by triathlete friends. (And so glad!) I guess I could describe myself as being moderately, physically active throughout my life. I had, however, routinely struggled with motivation to "weight train". I knew that this was an important component of overall lifelong fitness and performance. Without being redundant and agreeing with the other posts- to sum it all up I really love and appreciate Ryan's kb philosophy: FUN, EFFECTIVE, and SIMPLE! I feel that it has been the change in my workout routine that has really made an impact on my athletic performance, as well as total wellness. For example- I have been a cross-country skate skier for about 6 years. I have done the American Birkebeiner 50K skate ski five times. This year I was really dreading it because we had very little opportunity to train due to very little snowfall. Of course, as usual, I did stay active swimming, computraining on my bike, running, and added KETTLE BELL. The kb was the only new variable. I finished the 50K ski event with my fastest time ever by 2 minutes! I believe kb will help me to stay strong and endure any/all future adventures, as well. THANKS, Ryan!

I have tried almost every exercise program, gadget, machine, DVD a woman can try, and have quit every single one of them. No really. I either get bored, get lazy, see no results, you get the picture. That was until I decided to try out this kettlebell workout that my friends kept talking about. Since March, I haven't looked back and go almost every day because I like it so much. Yes, I like to workout, can't believe I'm saying that!

This workout is amazing and Ryan is THE BEST trainer I have ever met. No yelling, no, shame or embarrassment, no "hey you slacker push it harder!!!" annoying attitude, just supportive, educated, and well-intentioned advice and motivation. He is unlike any other fitness instructor/athlete I have ever met. Under his instruction, you will NEVER feel like you can't do anything nor be worried about what others are thinking of you. And let's face it, many of us have felt this way with other workouts. The beauty of kettlebells combined with Ryan's instruction is that it doesn't matter what everyone else is doing, you do what is best for you. And isn't that what working out is all about: making YOU feel better, inside and out!

With Ryan's workouts and his nutritional tips and programs, I have lost 51 pounds, and more comes off every week. But its not just about the weight (although a major factor!), my body is shaping up, my muscles are getting toned, and my endurance is unbelievable. Ryan has helped me throughout this journey, focusing on overall health, so that this weight loss is more than just pounds off, its a lifestyle change. I enjoy reading and discussing articles and books he shares; he's always up for discussing health practices and philosophies.

This workout is for everyone. When you walk into Ryan's classes, you see all kinds of people with many different goals. Different sizes and shapes as well, yet one thing in common: determination. I walked into my first class having done basically nothing physical, and just slowly worked my way through the program. Again, Ryan's style of gentle corrections and genuine support helps you be the best you can be. As you get to know the other members, you find yourself in a great community of people having fun, sharing stories, and loving every minute of their workout. Really.

I don't normally write too many reviews, but I believe in Ryan and the kettlebell workout so much that I'd continue to rave well past my character limit! The results don't lie, the mirror doesn't lie, and your body won't lie either. Hands down, I feel like I'm in the best shape I've ever been in, and the fun part is, I'm still working on the journey and I'm excited about it. So, this woman has finally found a program that she won't be quitting. Thanks Ryan!

Ryan provides more than just class instruction; he offers suggestions for nutrition, stretching and overall health and body improvement. Ryan’s skill in correcting form and adjusting for pain or muscle strain is amazing! I love his coaching and instruction style, he is consistently patient and kind with his reminders, tweaks and suggestions. I never feel uncomfortable about being a ‘newbie’, he provides individual coaching tips to everyone, mentions modifications for skill/strength level and helps with proper weight selection. I never feel self-conscious or embarrassed; the classes are always fun, friendly, and challenging. I enjoy the variety of the classes, they are never repetitive.

I've just recently turned 50 and I am surprised at the significant improvement in my strength and form, as well as the weight loss and muscle tone I've achieved, even in my first month. Ryan is a great instructor and coach; he helps me get the most out of myself, in a fun enjoyable way.

 
10/10 Kettlebells are for EVERYONE

Ryan makes kettlebells- something that initially sounds strange and foreign- accessible to everyone. When my husband Julius began training I thought kettlebells were just the latest workout fad and I definitely thought it was a "guy thing".

But when within months Julius trimmed down and muscled up I decided I better go in and try kettlebells for myself! I have been SO happy with the training I've received from Ryan, who is knowledgeable, friendly and never condescending like some personal trainers I've seen in the past.

Training with kettlebells does not make me some remarkable athlete that trains in some elite sport... I'm just an average gal who, with kettlebell training, has achieved above-average levels of strength and fitness that would not have otherwise occurred without Ryan's help.

Meagan, another trainer for TNT was the catalyst for me joining this program. I'm, significantly over weight and needed to kick start my weight loss and wanted a different approach. Once my wife and I began to train with Ryan we were immediately surprised at how positive-optimistic but firm his approach to our fitness was. I became increasingly confident in his suggestions as he allowed me to self evaluate my success and assured me that he'd work WITH me to achieve those success goals. I have hired trainers in the past and he is the FIRST ever to explain that he is there to help me succeed and this help would not be easy but it would be what's necessary to achieve success. I cringe everytime I attend his class as I know the workout will require all I have, but feel so accomplished once the workout is over and look forward to Ryan's fist bump and his "good job" comments. I will be a part of this fitness program as long as he's my instructor. Great Job Ryan

Despite my complaining. my wife dragged me to one of Ryan's classes. I was not interested in fitness, nor did I see the point in working out. That was three years ago - Kettlebell training has changed my life. Not only am I (much) stronger and faster than before I started, I also sleep better, concentrate harder at work and just plain feel better.

Ryan is everyman's trainer; he's no gym rat. He has a great ability to entice you to reach the next level of fitness without pressuring you to do more weight than you can handle. His knowledge of fitness is comprehensive, which makes him very flexible; he's also great at working around injuries.

I can't say enough about Ryan's training philosophy. It made a believer out of me!

Ryan Toshner's kettlebell classes are efficient and fun! With Ryan's help (and Derek's (Ryan's brother)- TNT Fond du Lac), I have lost 11% body fat in 18 months, and over 20 pounds. I am 38 years old, hypothyroid, and have a history of obesity in my family and in my own past.
I have gained a lot of muscle, competed in the Tactical Strength Challenge and placed 9th internationally, and was inspired to become RKC certified myself this past June 2010. I credit Ryan, in part, with this improvement in my health, because without Ryan ever taking the leap of becoming RKC certified (now he is RKC II), Derek would've never become RKC certified, and there would be no TNT Fond du Lac or TNT Brookfield (or TNT Appleton!). Well, it would be much less likely!
Ryan takes the time to really know his clients and their goals, and knows how to motivate different people. Ryan's knowledge is broad and deep, and because health and nutrition are his passions (as well as helping people improve in these areas), he is constantly reading more on the topics and passing on his knowledge to his clients, as well as furthering his education through other certification classes like RKC II and Functional Movement Systems (FMS) training.
I attend Ryan's evening class most Wednesday nights when I am in Waukesha for work, and enjoy his kettlebell workout as it is simple and effective--always. There is nothing unnecessary or over-the-top. His intelligence shows through in his workouts, and they are well designed. You WILL get quick, positive results with kettlebells and Ryan as your trainer. Be consistent, and transformation will occur!

I found Ryan through the Dragon Door website in January 2009. I began attending classes at Ryan's studio about twice a week. Ryan is an excellent instructor, his teaching style is relaxed, but still attentive and he is never shy about pushing you a little harder.

I'm 36 years old, a full-time working mom of 2, and like everyone else, didn't think that I had time to make the commitment to my fitness and my health. I have never considered myself an athlete, I was never involved in sports. Ryan has motivated me, supported me, and pushed me to realize that I am an athlete and I can be an even better athlete with his help. I am stronger than I have ever been in my life, I feel better, I look better, and I have no doubt that I am healthier. Now, I'm working out at the studio 4 days a week and at home the other 3.

Ryan isn't just an instructor, he doesn't just teach kettlebells; he's a role model, an advocate, a champion, and a task-master. His classes are challenging and every single day he's there to bring something new and challenging to the studio!

I am a avid runner and love challenging myself to new things. I was introduced to kettlebells about one year ago and it definitly helped in everything that I trained for last year including a half marathon, triathlon and urbanathlon. I found out that I can run faster, longer and be strong without the bulk. I can really challenge myself with increasing weight and surprise myself often. I never thought I would be able to lift the kettlebells that I do now!

I have had the pleasure of attending Ryan's Kettlebell workouts for a month now and am amazed at the results. Every workout provides new and challenging moves with the kettlebell - no workout is the same, you will never get bored! On top of the great workouts, Ryan takes the time to get to know you and your individual needs. He invests his time in seeing you improve the way you want to. I am looking forward to continuing to train at his gym for years to come.

Since adopting Ryan's program of kettlebells and body-weight exercises almost exclusively into my daily workout regimen, I have BLOWN AWAY my previous PRs in every single exercise I USED to do. And I feel fantastic! I will never go back to muscle-isolation exercises. And I will certainly never touch another gym "machine", strength OR cardio.

Last year I had my first encounter with a kettlebell at a fitness store. I was told that the instructor in this area is Ryan. I was not sure I would be physically capable of doing kettlebell training, as I am a 65 year old with my share of injury limitations. Ryan has kept a close eye on my form and technique for every routine. Ryan, as a great fitness coach, has enabled me to do much more than I thought possible. Ryan is extremely enthusiastic and keeps a close eye on all in his classes. I consider myself fortunate to have Ryan as a kettlebell trainer. The RKC should take pride in having Ryan as one of their representatives.

I have been working out through Ryan's kettlebell instruction for several months. Ryan is an excellent instructor! His workouts are widely varied and allow for overall fitness. While he holds group workouts, he shows an excellent understanding of individuals, and provides personal assistance through screenings, and suggestions (workouts, dieting, etc.). Ryan is extremely knowledgable and friendly, and makes classes exciting, intense, and effective!

Personally, while I also work out in other forms, I have found his kettlebell workouts to be amongst the most effective. I am much stronger overall, and particularly in my core. I feel much more energetic, and I've slimmed down to the point that I'm in the smallest pair of pants I've ever been in my adult life. The results are obvious, and it's thanks to Ryan's instruction!

Ryan introduced my girlfriend and me to Kettlebell training, and it has truly been one of the most comprehensive and informative workouts I've ever participated in. While we're more of the casual gym-goers, when we attend Ryan's class, we're sure to undergo a fitness challenge that we can feel proud in completing. On top of all that, Ryan has spent numerous hours discussing proper nutrition and balance in my diet, further educating me on how to give my body the best fuel possible. Hands down, there are very few (or none at all) that can top Ryan!

I'm a 42 year old single mom with the weight of the world on my shoulders. I came to Ryan as a smoker and with bad back problems. Ryan has taught me that kettle bells will NOT hurt my back. Since I met Ryan about 11 months ago, He's helped me quit smoking, my back problems are a thing of the past, I'm stronger than I've ever been and I feel like I have a second chance at life. He's educated me in kettle bells and nutrition. He's incredibly knowledgable. He teaches kettle bell is cardio AND builds bone density, which is important for a woman of my age. Because of Ryan, I found that kettle bell is the only workout that I've stayed interested in for longer than three months.

I didn't even know what a Kettlebell was before I tried Ryan's introductory "Essentials" class in April 2009. Fast forward 8 weeks to today and I can wholeheartedly say I've made significant improvements in strength, endurance, and flexibility as a result of Ryan's varied Kettlebell workouts.

Ryan's classes are always different and always challenging. He combines Kettlebells with other body weight/cardio exercises to give you all encompassing strength, cardio, and core conditioning.

Ryan not only does a great job explaining technique, but also how different Kettlebell exercises affect your body and why they are important. His workouts make sense, deliver results, and - best of all - are 45 minutes.

I noticed results right away from a mental standpoint. Physically, I was sore after the first few classes because Kettlebells hit my body in ways I hadn't experienced in a long time. However, the results I've seen from Kettlebells over the past 2 months are more significant than when I would go to my 'regular' gym 3 or 4, even 5 times a week.

I needed a change - Kettlebells delivered. I truly feel like I play a sport and not just working out.

Folks in Milwaukee who are interested in learning proper Kettlebell technique and achieving tangible results are lucky to have Ryan in the area. Try it out a few times for a couple weeks and there's a chance you'll be hooked.

 
10/10 Books and DVDs can only go so far

I have been training with kettlebells on my own for a short while, and have made tremendous progress. However, I knew at some point I would need personal instruction, and it should happed sooner rather than later.

Ryan was excellent in tweaking my somewhat decent form, and transforming it into something respectable. He spent more than enough time instructing me to ensure I was comfortable with the information. I know his instruction on the clean, press, and snatch saved me months of time and frustration from developing bad form and then having to correct my bad habits. Ryan also provided drills and excercises that were not present in the books and DVDs.

If you are looking into kettlebells or have been using them on your own, I definetly recommend getting instruction. Pavel and the rest of the RKC team produce a great product, and Ryan is an excellent example.

Ryan introduced me to kettlebells about seven months ago. Prior to that my workouts consisted of essentially going through the motions as I moved from one machine to the next. Never again. Ryan opened the door for me. He has made working out fun for me and in the process helped me to get in the best shape of my life. Before I started working with Ryan I would have been happy doing a single pullup. Now I can do eight in a row. And that's just one of the many improvements I've made.

His knowledge of fitness and nutrition along with his enthusiasm to share this information with other people makes him an amazing teacher. Whatever goal you're trying to reach, he can help you get there.

Wow! I have entered the world of Kettlebells. Ryan has truely taken me to the next level. Not only has he vastly improved my kettlebell workout, but he is incredibly knowledgable on nutrition, over all fitness and flexibility.

Whether it be a general trainer, kettlebell trainor or someone to help you hit a certain goal, look no further, Ryan is the one for you!

The only reason I gave him a 9 is because he is my brother, and I want him to constantly be improving himself. I'll give you a 10 when you hit Master RKC bro...I know you can get there. Without Ryan, I would not have passed the certification for RKC last weekend, and I say that with 100% certainty. I wouldn't have trained hard enough, had proper technique, and wouldn't have even attempted to tame the "Beast" without your guidance. Thank you for writing a stellar program for me to follow, introducing me to kettlebells, teaching me proper technique, and giving me pointers along the way.
