When I signed up for training I had in mind to lose those last 10 pounds (that are so tough to come off) and body sculpting. What I got was strength, endurance, flexibility and a reduction in back pain, as well as a loss of 6 pounds. It is all about functional movement that results in a healthier, stronger body. My friends and family are amazed at my strength and flexibility. Chuck does not mince words, he calls it as he sees it and you always know where you stand. He shares his learning freely in a matter of fact fashion. Having a philosophy of continual improvement, he is the most certifed trainer I have had the pleasure to work with. If you are interested in bulking up, Chuck is not your man. But if you are interested in a stronger, healthier body that works as God intended it to, Chuck will get you there.

I must say that Chuck Halbakken is one of the most knowledgeable trainers in his craft. His strength is definately something to take note of as well. Chuck can make some of the most challenging feats look like a walk in the park. I've seen him bend thick steel nails with his bare hands. (I tried it and could barely budge a small bend and I'm a 230 lb. bodybuilder!) A deck of cards were torn two times over in all of about 2 seconds. A phone book... no problem, he can rip it like a business card. Chuck can hold 2-24 kg. kettlebells and do a squat on a bosu ball... on one foot!

Not only is he a strong man, but also an incredibly knowledgable inspirational leader here at Gold's Gym. His clients come to him with every question in the book and he knows every answer you can throw at him. Chuck has shown the ability to train every type of client. He has physically limited people accomplishing things they could not do in their wildest dreams. No matter what your fitness level ability is, Chuck can design the best program to fit your needs. Kettlebells are his main tool and he can make everyone he comes across into a true believer and that is his work of art.
Chuck is professional, courteous, but to the point. His technical knowledge on kettlebell training and Z-Health is unparalled by anyone I have come across in my lifetime. (I have been managing gyms for the last seven years) Most of all, Chuck is a gentleman and a great guy to work with.

For many years I had the idea that workingout was a series of painful movements and never reaching my goal of a healthy body, but now with the help of Chuck and kettlebells I am not only reacting my goal of losing 60 pounds but I am also enjoying every step. Chuck keeps me focused and teaches basic fundementals that I can understand. I don't get tired of working with the kettlebells because the movements are so basic. What really gets me the most is that in only 1 month I lost 10 pounds and 3 inches all over. I could not have done any of this on my own without Chuck's help. I would and have suggested kettlebell training to many others and hope that they get the clue that this is fun, easy and effective.

To put it simple Chuck is my fitness Guru. I came to him with a goal to lose 20 pounds and get to a 34" waist. In three months I lost over 50 pounds and dropped to a 31 inch waist. I'm now lighter and healthier than I was in high school. He developed a plan that fit my office lifestyle and helped me make simple changes to my eating habits that had amazing results. If you want to get stronger and lose weight I highly reccomend calling Chuck Halbakken.

Chuck is amazing. I've had lower back pain for nearly 17 years. I've been to chiropractors, physical therapists, and orthopedic doctors. I've been on exercise programs, stretching programs, and adjustment programs. Nothing worked; in fact, sometimes my pain got worse. I was even told by my orthopedic doctor that I might have osteoarthritis. At 26? WTF!! Then I met Chuck. He showed me a wedge drill that he learned in a one-on-one session with Pavel, and in a matter of seconds my back pain disappeared! It hasn't come back since, and I don't remember ever being able to move the way I can now. Awesome!! Thanks Chuck!!

Being a lineman for AT&T, I have had ongoing pain in my knees. I was about to see a doctor about my trouble when introduced to Chuck Halbakken. He had showed me what can cause the trouble and what I could do to help. After our first training appointment my knee pain stopped. I would suggest that with any ongoing joint pain to visit Chuck before any doctor has the chance to surgically correct any trouble.

I just went to a kettlebell workshop with my team at the movement. It was challenging but was so in a way that better improved my understanding of motion-related workouts. Strenuous YES! but very manageable. The training was very well put together. The instructor was engaged as well-personally and physically. Overall these skills would better the functionality and role I would hold during all of my physical activity. 10/10!

i have been have pain in my right shoulder for two weeks. the last week was very bad. I was having trouble sleeping, and would wake up in a great deal of pain. During the day I couldn't move my arm above my head without pain. I came in to see Chuck and in 15 minutes he localized the problem, came up with a corrective exercise and after 10 minutes I was able to move without pain.
See Chuck, he made my pain go away with a simple exercise.

I have been working with Chuck for a little over 6 mos which has dramatically increased my coordination and speed in the areas of ICORE and USPSA shooting sports. Chuck demonstrates a high level of competencies in regards to strength and mobility as it applies to tactical shooting performance. If anyone wants to improve their IPSC, USPSA, ICORE or IDPA ability, you need to train with Chuck. His training will supply you with movement advantages that many shooters lack.

when i came to chuck's gym for the first time i had a blast, some of the exersises we do are so much fun. chucks gym helped relax me for the rest of the day. it made me feel more awake and alert the whole day. it was a lot of fun and some of the things you get to do are amazing. chuck is very nice and always fun.me and the water polo team all had a blast at chucks gym.

chuck's kettle weight workout is intense! i have done it for about 4 months and i see many improvements in my physical and mental abilities. The workout makes my energy drain so quick but when I'm back doing my sport i feel less drained when I play and makes my performance way better. Chuck workout also helped my back from hurting, i also feel like i walk with my back straight and have better balance. So, all around his workout is awesome.

Chuck's reviews cannot do full justice for the excellent professionalism and knowledge that he knows. After having Chuck train me 3 times my strength went up, my speed and reaction time in my martial arts training and sparring have also gone up tremendously. I first met Chuck at a shooting competition where he told me that he offered a class at his gym that taught people the mechanics of shooting, and that he could get me strong enough to handle whatever the world threw at me. I was a little sceptical at first of what he was saying, so when he invited me to his class I couldn't refuse the offer. The next day at his class I learned several great exercises that really worked. I had a membership at a different gym that I cancelled the next day after my first class with Chuck, because I felt so strongly that he would be the answer to my fitness questions. I have made more progress in three weeks at Chuck's "gym" then I did with six months at my old gym. Chuck listend to what I wanted to accomplish, and worked out a personalised exerxise program.

I had never realised that there was anything wrong with a traditional gym, until I met Chuck, he showed me that the only thing wrong with normal gyms is EVERYTHING. With Chuck as my trainer I know that I will see myself in the mirror in two months and not realise that I am looking at me.

I see chuck five days a week for about an hour a day, and work out every muscle in my body, and not just one or two muscle groups.

Not many times in your life do you get a second chance.
I have been a long term " very active person"....but felt I had "let myself go" over the last year,I honestly was worried if I would ever be able to get my fitness and strength back to a level I once achieved on a daily basis.
My fiance started in Chucks class and within the first week ,thanks to her rave reviews and obvious benefits and my needs to get fitter and stronger, I was hooked.
I look forward to Chucks class and the professional manner in which he conducts his gym.
He is a very open and caring person with a great attitude which is infectious.
I started feeling the results after the first couple of days and after a short time I have experienced visible results and I feel so much fitter and healthier

Chuck is a cruel, cruel man. How he can smile while subjecting me to these new realms of pain speaks volumes to his vile nature.
No, really though... this guy knows his stuff. I've never done any excercise that is so effective in so little time as RKC with Chuck. I'm stronger, faster, I sleep better, I have no body aches or pain, I have more energy, and I'm more confident. Unlike other RKC instructors, Chuck emphasizes and teaches the mental aspects of strength training- this makes the time spent in his gym even more rewarding.

I started training with Chuck a few weeks ago, and to be honest, I was skeptical about what a he and a few kettle bell swings could really do to improve my movement and strength. Well, Chuck's no nonsense approach, positive attitude, and determination to help me become stronger and more mobile than I ever have been, changed my mind. Immediately, I noticed a difference. He was able to target many issues I have had for years with intense movements and a sincere desire to see me feel better. I am stronger, more limber, and my energy levels have increased dramitically. I am a competitive shooter in IPSC and ICORE action pistol, and 3 gun disciplines. I asked chuck to make me better at my sport. He was able to identify the key systems and movements and skills required and started my regimen. Within 3 weeks I was beating shooters that were, only a few weeks before, classified 2 or three divisions ABOVE my skill level. I fear no obstacle or physical demand that is required in the course of fire. I am thrilled at the physical strength and speed I am developing. Friends at the matches are asking me these days, "Dave, what are you eating? That was insane!"

While visiting Modesto recently I decided to schedule an appointment with Chuck to examine my kettlebell techniques. I will preface my remarks by saying that Chuck was the first RKC-trained professional trainer I have ever visited, so my basis of comparison may be limited.

I was very pleased with what I learned from Chuck. He pointed out several minor, and a few major, technique flaws, and answered specific questions I had about technique issues. He not only presented techniques in terms of technicalities to perform (e.g., do the movement exactly like this) but also in terms of concepts and a movement's similarity to other exercises. A nice touch was making sure I performed enough reps of an exercise after we worked on technique to reinforce the improved grove for a movement. Finally, he also went beyond the time frame of our scheduled appointment and had a good sense of humor.

I would definitely recommend that others visit Chuck and I hope to do so myself in the future.

I am an RKC I travel 3 hours to work with Chuck. His knowledge of kettlebell is quite deep. He tightens up my form everytime I see him. I enjoy his smooth and relaxed teaching style. I went to another RKC workshop, the only thing I learned was how many reps he could do with his 88's; then he showed us. When going to Chucks I always become A BETTER RKC.

I first met Chuck at a Pavel stretching/abdominal workshop in Sacramento,CA in Nov. 08. When I started having pain in my left shoulder, and regular therapy was not cutting it, I got in contact with Chuck and set up a session. WOW! After we went through my injury history, he had me do only one movement and the pain in my left shoulder disappeared about 99%. After we were done I was walking more relaxed and pain free. Chuck helped me realise that the pain in my shoulder was not actually in my shoulder but a combination of old injuries, primarily from my martial arts training, that was giving me a false signal making me think that I had a shoulder injury. Chuck really understands the complexities of the human body, that and his attention to detail, is what makes him great at what he does. I look forward to working more with him, and I was singing praises about him to friends and relatives after our session was done. I am an endurance runner who went to Chuck for help with upper back/neck pain. He quickly showed me why I was having the pain and how to get rid of it. Chuck is a genius! After all the great techniques mastered at the RKC, the most skilled eyes of a Kettlebell trainer cannot convey the information for the ultra weak posterior chain of a client. The client understands but still cannot generate the "snap". A combination of some great mobility drills and the Halbakken swing your client will create the neurological chunk needed to master the kettlebell swing! The Halbakken Swing should be added to the course! Superb information Chuck thank you!

I recently attended Chuck's kettlebell class at his studio in Modesto. It was a 45 min class that incorporated strength and cardiovascular training. What a great workout! Using just 4 kettlebell exercises he led us through a challenging but enjoyable routine. He also included some functional core floor/work exercises. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Chuck Halbakken this weekend over the past 3 days at the RKC Level 1 certification seminar in San Jose CA on February 20-22. His no-nonsense approach to strength training and fitness allows a person to achieve fitness in the standard areas that most people look at (i.e. muscle mass and fat mass), but also on flexibility, power, speed, strength endurance, which truly knowledgeable consumers aspire for.

Had no idea what kettlebells were until I met Chuck. He talked to me for about 45 minutes, asked alot of questions, and took me around the gym (Golds). When I asked him why we were using kettlebells instead of the machines everyone was using he said "you are not a hamster, so why do you want to train like one? Then he pointed out that most of the people on the machines have looked the same for months. I was skeptical, but I gave it a try. The salesman said I needed six months to reach my fitness goals, but with Chuck, I reached them in three months. I recommend Chuck as a trainer!

Chuck is the only trainer I have ever hired who is as strong as me. When I met him I asked him what he could bench. He said he didn't know. When I pressed him he explained that was not a lift he practiced. As time has went on he has taught a new movement/lifting language. Words like Bent press, Dead lift, Health lift, Turkish Get-Up, Farmers walk, etc. I thought I was "old school", he explained that "old school" to him was around 1900. I am learning how to lift the "old" way, or as Chuck says, the "correct" way. He also says I am "Scary Strong" now, I'm not sure if that is good or bad, but it is FUN.

Chuck showed-up 30 minutes early for our first appointment and I made my first mistake by calling him a "Retard" for being early. He asked me if I was serious and I said yes. He said he would be back in 30 minutes. 30 minutes later, he was back and asked if I was ready; I replied yes.....RETARD- Strike TWO. 10 minutes into the workout he asked if I was doing OK, I told him it was too easy...STRIKE THREE!
I puked within five minutes.
We are now good friends.
I do not call him a Retard.
I recommend you call him Chuck or Coach.
The training is awesome

You know the ones, with the anorexic twit on the cover. I asked Chuck what he thought about it, and he said "I Don't". He went on to explain that to him, this was an excellent example of an unhealthy body, and "look" over performance. Additionally, that model spends hours a day with a "celebrity trainer" and has a ridiculous diet. That made me think......... All the while Chuck is looking at me with an amused look on his face. He said "why do you care about them"? You are an attractive wife and mother and think you have to loose ten pounds. So lose it and stay happy! I am now on the road to a fit and healthy life. By the way Chuck is a terrible liar, LOL! The results come much faster than he says it will.

Started working with Chuck about two months ago. Needed to lose weight, back bothered me, was told there was no option other than surgery...you get the picture. First surprise, he interviewed me! He explained to me that this was not an experiment, and his methods did work and he wanted to see if we could work together. Second surprise, he didn't promise me "instant" results. He said that if I was looking for a "magic" solution, I should keep looking, as he didn't have one. He did promise steady progress. Guess what? After two months I have no back pain, I have lost fifteen pounds and I feel better than I have in thirty years. Best of all, I HAVE A LIFE. I decided to hire a trainer when my daughter was three months old. This was my second child and I knew first hand how long and difficult losing weight and gaining muscle tone could be. I met Chuck by accident, the trainer I was scheduled with had called in sick that day and he agreed to work with me. I was expecting him to talk to me about eating five to six times a day, cardio for an hour a day, and working with him for three hours a week. ( I have worked with three different trainers and this was standard) Imagine my surprise when he told me the preferred way to lose body-fat was to work with him four times a week for thirty minutes, eat only when I was hungry, stay away from shakes, and enjoy life. I was quite skeptical when he told me to stop using a scale and focus on how my clothes fit. I`m happy to say that I did lose a few pounds, but more importantly I dropped three dress sizes in three months! It was a great experience to work with Chuck. He is professional, extremely knowledgeable, a gentleman, and the workouts are fun. I would highly recommend his services.

I have been in extreme back pain for about three years. It all started when a trainer I was working with told me my hip needed to be "stretched - out". He proceeded to stretch my hip, something "popped" and the pain started. It wasn't to bad at first, but over a few days it became unbearable. I have been to Chiropractors, Physical Therapists, Orthopedics, and Neurologists. I have had probably every scan in existence, but nobody could tell me why I was in such terrible pain. When visiting my sister in California this year, my sister suggested I see her trainer. When I met Chuck, I asked him how he could help me when he wasn't even a doctor. He smiled and said no he was not a doctor, and asked how what I had tried was working for me? I replied not so good, so we started our session. After about forty-five minutes he was having me walk and I noticed he was smiling, I asked why and he asked if I was in any pain? I was not in any pain for the first time in years! He gave me some exercises to do and recommended I work with another Z-Health trainer in Florida. I highly recommend Chuck, he is polite, professional, very skilled, and has a sense of humor.

I attended the F2 STRENGTH workshop last Saturday and it was AWESOME! The instructors were really knowledgeable, captivating, and good presenters. Their enthusiasm is contagious. They know how to present complicated information so that it is both relevant and exciting. I really liked the nervous system drills at the end with the tennis ball. I really came away a good understanding of the importance of training your nervous system, and with the mobility drills will be great for my Kettlebell training. Most of all they showed all of us that training should be fun, not soul-crushing and BORING. Best of all I set a PR with a 32kg pistol. My previous best was 24kg! You have to attend an F2 STRENGTH WORKSHOP!

I recently attended an F2 strength workshop and it was very nice. It was a relaxed atmosphere and the instructors used student feedback to help direct and set the pace of the activities. The instructors were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The course was well paced and introduced a wide range of skills that will be very useful in daily life as well as sport. I would highly recommend attending an F2 STRENGTH workshop.

I recently attended a workshop at F2 STRENGTH and have to say, it was top quality, and on the same level of quality as the RKC. The training is excellent for the novice or the advanced athletes, each will benefit according to their ability to understand. The instructors are extremely qualified and are excellent communicators. I will use the mobility drills I learned to help myself and my students move correctly. I can't wait until the next F2 STRENGTH workshop!

I have worked with KB's for a couple of years, not necessarily faithfully. I know you can have good results when used properly and regularly. I knew I needed to get back to work with a trainer to keep me accountable...

I have been working with Chuck for about one month. I have pounds to lose, strength and flexibility to gain, and low back-feet/gait-hip issues to work on.

It has been a pleasure getting back to regular workouts.

Chuck has a no nonsense approach to achieving strength, endurance, flexibility. His knowledge of joint mobility is amazing. He can really see the problem with my movement and can help me correct it immediately.

When our sessions are complete I know exactly what I need to be working on for the next week.

Since beginning with Chuck, I have a reduction in back pain, better gait, less pain (really discomfort rather than true pain) overall. I have lost about 8 lbs. and just this week was able to put on some jeans I haven't worn in over a year and a half. Down a size from where I began.

I look forward to a continued training relationship with Chuck because I can truly see the results I have been wanting are within my grasp.

Chuck is much more then an excellent kettlebell instructor. His knowledge of z-health is at a frighteningly high level. When he gives you some wrist drills to work on ankle problems you do it because you know this guy knows his stuff. Not to mention that he can bend hefty nails and tear decks of cards in half.

I had the pleasure of assisting along with him at one of the RKC's. Virtually everytime he opened his mouth to correct one of the students it was a simple easy to correct point and always spot on.

Not only would I be happy to train along with him again but I'd actually pay him to teach me a few things.

After watching him train an athlete using kettlebells I knew he was the guy I wanted, no needed, to teach me. His ability to see my problem and correct it is second to none. I have always believed that first impressions are lasting,good or bad.Being in a gym atmosphere, you always have trainers walking around,and they all have their own opinions on doing certain things to accomplish certain goals.These days more than ever people are in a hurry, no matter what it is they're doing, it's on a schedule. When we do have time to hit the gym we want to see RESULTS in a hurry as well! I had the pleasure of meeting Chuck one morning about a year ago, at Gold's Gym in Modesto. I'm normally there fairly early as I like to get in, get done and get my day started. I have been around the "game" for over 25 years and consider myself one of the "old schoolers" but I'm also open minded to new things that will get results. After about 3 weeks of watching others, and a little bit of Chuck's coersion, I gave in and tried out the Kettles. I was not only impressed with the exercises, but the style of teaching that Chuck has is unparalelled! His approach is straight forward, to the point, and he doesn't sugar coat anything!Chuck showed me some new "old school" exercises that blew my mind! With Kettles, Z-Health,and Chuck's guidance, you'll get great RESULTS! The best part is that you can do this in as little as 30 minutes! Just be prepared, Chuck is no slouch, he has incredible strength, and will surprise most that ever challenge his ability. I have the utmost respect for his knowledge, and recommend him to anyone that truly wants results and isn't afraid to bust their butt to get there and still have FUN doing it.I have now incorporated Kettles into my workout, and I recommend them for increasing overall strength and losing those unwanted inches. Chuck assisted my RKC group last weekend. I was immediately impressed by how quickly he could spot a form error and how clearly he could explain it. He helped tighten my technique A LOT!

I would highly recommend him to kettlebell users who want to take their form to the next level. It really is all about the form if you want to get great results without injury or strain.

He is super kind and has great energy. You can tell that he really cares about everyone he trains.

I've been running, walking and doing my circuit training on my own for over four years and it was frustrated to see I was not getting anywhere. I wanted to lose a few pounds and instead I was gradually gaining a pound each year. After working with Chuck for 3 months, I was able to lose 4 pounds and best of all I dropped 2 sizes in my clothes and it was such an amazing delight to be able to fit into my favorite clothes I have hanging in my closet from 2 years ago. I feel much better overall, stronger and more agile and I really enjoy swinging the kettle bell every day. I am able to keep the weight off and keep my new size! This summer I was busy getting new clothes for my new size and there's no need to describe my joy in this venture.

I've been working out for a long time now, i'm still young at 21, I train to intensify my strength and grow in muscle size. I do well, keeping up compared to the other gym goers beside me lifting their max weight, everyone looking at their swollen muscle tone in the mirrors, shouting as they perform reps, sweating then slamming down their heavy weights. Then chuck comes wondering by swinging weights around heavier than what anyone else is lifting like its nothing, "Hey, can i show you a tip there." Chuck says then performs some crazy stunt even Arnold couldnt do. People come to the gym for an intense workout and usually are lifting super heavy weight looking like they're ready to have an aneurism, Chuck does that lookin like it weighs nothing and never ever breaks a sweat... Everyone who has ever had even 10 minutes to train with Chuck was amazed with what he could do.

After working out in the Gym for many years with little to no great results my wife said it was either train with Chuck or she would tie me to her SUV and drag me around the neighborhood.

Well after I got rid of all the rope around the house and decided to have Chuck come over twice a week for my Kettlebell and Z-Health training. After the first week I was walking around like a wounded duck but soon there after I took to this new training experience like a duck to water. I was so excited by my quick results I then filled my closet at home with more Kettlebells than most gyms have.

After turning 50 years old I thought that my strength, and flexibility was long gone but after two months of training I can honestly say if feel like it did back in my 20s.

I was a little caught off guard by Chuck the first time I met him for my fitness evaluation. He didnt care about my excuses, he said, cut the crap and "just tell me when you are going to make time to make it happen". He got right to the point and got to work with me. In fact another one of the first things he told me was that I should not chage the way I was eating one bit and make sure I was working with him at least 3 times per week. That caught me off guard too, I have never heard a trainer tell me that! Well it didnt take long to realize that once I was doing healthy things REGULARLY I was more enclined to eat healthy on my own. That has made all the difference beacuse it isnt a "diet" he put me on, it is a change I made on my own. And, of course, he knew it would happen that way. In just the first 3 weeks I worked with him I lost 2 dress sizes. With many more sizes to go I am excited and still working at it. He has shown me how to get healthy in the real world, not just in the gym. Thanks Chuck, the knowledge you have given me has inspired me to learn more and expand my training and skills in the fitness and health field. I am a happier person and a better mom when I am taking time to do healthy things for me.

9/10 Excellent instruction - Keep him focused

Chuck is an excellent instructor/trainer. He is in fact the only trainer I have ever liked. After years of on-again off-again weight training this is the first time I feel focused and that I am making true headway. I am attempting to loose weight, gain strength, and increase flexibility. In the last four months with Chucks help I can see my goals in sight and those around comment on the visible change. Prior to working with Chuck I would do 3 reps of curls at 80 pounds. A couple of weeks ago I tried this again but I was using 120 pounds, and I feel I could have done more. I highly recommend him to anyone with one caveat, he likes to talk which is great as it makes the session go even faster but watch yourself or you'll spend to much time talking. I made the mistake of telling him this once and he quit talking and I was sore for the rest of the week. Let see what happens after he reads this.
