About Stephan Berwick

Stephan Berwick is an emerging 13th generation Chen Taijiquan specialist, widely recognized as an early proponent of Mainland China martial arts. An original disciple of Grandmaster Ren Guangyi and student of top Chen family grandmasters, Berwick completed primary research in Taijiquan's birthplace, Chenjiagou and was one of the first two Americans, with action-film star Donnie Yen, to train at the Sha'anxi Athletic Technical Institute in China under Grandmasters Zhao Changjun and Bai Wenxiang.

Berwick was originally a student of Grandmaster Bow Sim Mark and went on to become one of the first Western martial arts performers in Hong Kong action films under director, Yuen Wo Ping and Yen. Since 1996, he has authored dozens of authoritative articles on all aspects of martial arts and is the co-author of Taijiquan: 38 Form & Applications, Practical Tai Chi, Tai Chi for Kids, and Taijiquan Hand & Sword. Berwick has been profiled in major martial arts publications including Inside Kung Fu, Kung Fu Tai Chi, and was the first Western Chen Taijiquan exponent profiled as a cover feature in a leading martial arts magazine, the Journal of Asian Martial Arts.

Berwick's creation of the unique True Strength™ training regimen is drawn from his deep expertise in ancient Chinese warrior methods, as well as his mentoring of the physically challenged and defense professionals.
