About Jason Therrien

Growing up with enthusiasm for a wide variety of sports and outdoor recreation, Jason Therrien discovered early on that the human body has the ability to heal, grow, and adapt to the demands placed on it. Jason was also encouraged to choose health and fitness as a lifestyle because of the influence of his father, an avid outdoorsman and true health crusader.

Strength training, of course, became the cornerstone for Jason’s achieving a profound state of health, athletic performance, and personal change. Training always provided him with a clear-cut advantage in sports performance and helped him avoid injuries in many athletic endeavors. Lacrosse, though, was always Jason’s main athletic focus. He played midfielder at Conard High School, Connecticut, where he was one of three captains. Continuing his education with a postgraduate year at Bridgeton Academy in Maine, Jason got to play with high-caliber players from all over the East Coast. He then went on to play in the highly competitive Division III, Old Dominion Conference, serving a significant role as a midfielder on the Virginia Wesleyan College team. After choosing health science as a career, Jason finished his studies at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. There, he studied under the late Dr. Edmund Burke, a leading authority on endurance training and recovery nutrition. Burke’s work has led to many advances in the world of endurance sports and supplementation. Having Burke as a mentor allowed Jason to get an insider’s perspective on how the world of exercise physiology develops and applies training methods for both professional and Olympic athletes.

Since moving to Colorado, Jason has continued to be involved with lacrosse. He is currently in his fifth season as a high school coach. Jason’s passion and focus on conditioning, injury resilience, and high-paced offensive strategies has helped his team progressively reach their goal of having the best win record in the program’s history.

Jason also continues to work at his private studio, the Iron Lion–Russian Kettlebell Studio, located in the beautiful foothills of Colorado Springs. At his studio, he trains a diverse client population with a focus on sports performance, post rehab, and weight management. He applies kettlebell training as the main mode of exercise for his clientele.

When Jason finds time for personal interests and hobbies, he is an avid mountain biker and trail runner. Living in Colorado and practicing a healthy lifestyle has given Jason the opportunity to compete in some of the country’s most challenging endurance events. In addition to enjoying trail sports, Jason’s passion for backpacking and the pure outdoor experience has brought him to some of the most isolated and scenic places in the interior West. Because Jason is committed to helping people achieve their goals and aspirations, he finds writing a powerful tool for sharing information. Life is a progressive path with no destination, in Jason’s view, so he looks forward to writing more books to help people achieve health- and fitness-related goals.
