September 2007 Russian Kettlebell Challenge Instructor Certification Workshop — Participant Praise

Matthew Godina, Personal Trainer, New York

Athletic Achievements, training background or specialty:

USMC 66-69, V-Nam, boxing, biking and rollerblading

Very difficult in terms of physical demands. The most information packed program I've attended. The most valuable 3 days anyone interested in physical training could spend.

Pavel is a born teacher. He has the touch for simplicity and is a first rate communicator. A rare mixture of genius and humor. The team leaders were all first rate as were the Sr. instructors.

This program is better organized and presented than what is provided for the Federal Judiciary. The only thing I can compare it to is Marine Corp marksmanship training.

Carrie Dale, Marketing Director and Fitness Instructor, Exton, PA

Athletic Achievements, training background or specialty:

Certifications include group fitness certifications for kickboxing, strength training, and primary group fitness. I currently teach kickboxing, strength training, kettlebell, and boot camp classes.

Absolutely the best and most useful certification I have ever attended. I hung on every word. The RKC was also the only course I have taken during which I never thought, “that doesn’t make sense for my clients” or “I disagree.” If I had to pick only one course to attend again, it would be this one.

I came here with pretty good technique, but have improved more than I thought possible in such a short time. The instructors are excellent at explaining everything and providing individual attention. Worth every penny of the price of the course!

I particularly learned a lot from Pavel, Rif, Brett Jones and my team leader John Engum. Also really learned a lot from one of the team assistants, Tyler. Jason Brown did a fantastic job breaking down the snatch. My TGUs are 100% better after Pamela MacElree’s explanation.

Ryan Bishop, Fireman, Irvine, CA

I have been physically active my whole life and thought I was in fair shape. Attending this RKC seminar helped point out my weak points and show me the potential in not only myself but in the people that we come across everyday.

The training provided was second to none. I’ve attended many seminars in the past 14 years through the fire service. Never have I had so much hands on experience and 1 on 1 attention.

John M Smaltz, Athletic Trainer, Philadelphia PA

Athletic Achievements, training background or specialty:

Started Platoon Fitness Training, Platoon Personal Evolution Fitness Training Systems, 6 Years in United States Navy, Muscular Therapist, Personal Trainer and Strength Coach for 10 years.  Compete in multi-sport and multi day Adventure Races.

It was an extremely well put together program that wasted no time in providing the best information possible in a short amount of time. The information provided was also valuable in its ability to be practically used in an everyday working environment.

I felt the quality of training was pertinent to the information needed to pass the cert. Knowledge was incredible. My SI was Rif and asst. were Logan and Travis. They were all on the same page and equally participated in maintaining a high level of competence. SI Rif was remarkable in that he made sure that all the basics were understood before progressing. Logan and Travis followed suit in patrolling us and providing their own knowledge to motivate and instruct. I learned more from the instructors, in my group than I did in High School.

Many certs. just want your money. Whether you actually understand the information or can apply the information they will certify you at the end of the weekend. RKC should always maintain if not make stricter the integrity of its certification. Very impressive.

Sean McDonald, Personal Trainer, Springfield, MA

Athletic Achievements, training background or specialty:

NSCA-CPT

The most well organized, educational and professional cert I’ve ever been to.

It goes without saying Pavel and his ability to explain correct and move on is crazy, also he knows that everyone has different body types and things don’t have to be perfect. All instructors were friendly and encouraging. Andrea, thanks for everything, you were hard, kind and thoughtful, you taught me a lot. I thank you and so will my victims.

Of all the workshops, seminars, learn by doing classes, the knowledge of these RKC is unmeasurable. Look out world.

Sharon Tasman, Pricing Manager and Part Time trainer at Crossfit Philly, PHiladelphia, PA

Athletic Achievements, training background or specialty:

I am a runner and always will be. I have run a marathon, run a few half marathons. I continue to work with and train with kettlebells weekly. I work part time with Crossfit Philly and Kettlebell Athletics. I am Crossfit certified. I will be doing Megatransect Challenge. In the spare time I Mountain Bike.

An amazing workshop. I have learned so much in such a short time. I have improved my form, skill and ability to listen to others so I can instruct. This is an ideal workshop for those who are doing this as a personal goal or investment or for those who are doing this as a career. Great Experience.

Let’s just say I could listen to these instructors talk all day. I am hanging on every word that they say because they have so much knowledge and understanding and are willing to share.

Material provided was far better then other certs. that I have been to because it is direct to the point also included case studies – great idea. Practical use with the team practice, trouble shooting and workouts really put everything together and gave me more of an eye for what to look for.

Boris Bachmann, Teacher, Urbandale, IA

Athletic Achievements, training background or specialty:

Black belt Tae Kwon Do, high school All-American (swimming), powerlifting, swimming coach, high school S coach

It was AWESOME experience. I’ve never met a group of people as serious and focused on what many would consider a mere hobby. The instructors and participants were all very positive and results oriented.

I have hard, hard training in martial arts, competitive swimming, and power lifting but I’ve never been to a camp where so much content was given. Any sport or art training camp that I’ve been to focused almost exclusively on the physical -- it was nice to have a lot of feedback and have various instructors give feedback on the same person (as in the technique competition)

I couldn’t have picked a better team leader than Jason Brown. (btw, he doesn’t look that big in his you tube videos but he’s big, solid SOB!) Thanks Jason.

Jordan Cimino, Army Officer, Bellevue, WA

Athletic Achievements, training background or specialty:

Former US Army Officer, Attended JFK Special Warfare School, Currently training in Russian Martial Arts, Seeking employment as a police officer.

One of the most well organized, comprehensive, positive and grueling training events I have attended. I don’t know enough superlatives to describe it. So I’ll simply call it excellent.

Bob Uguccioni, Strength and Conditioning Coach, Colrain, MA

Athletic Achievements, training background or specialty:

-NCAA D3 Varsity Ice Hockey + Golf 2 years; -MS in Physical Education/ ATC from ISU; -5 years Karate with J.R. Roy in Greenfield, MA; -SCARS level 1 and 2, direct action corporation; -Certified, fitness, golf, performance nutrition, strength and conditioning with ISSA, Club Coach USA weight lifting; -Current masters level competitor Olympic weight lifting 69 kg weight class, 67 kg snatch, 82 C+J

A thorough and demanding certification both physically and mentally. The care and expertise shown by the instructors is unequaled by any other certification I have tested for.

Pavel is unique in that he shares all of his knowledge and experience freely. The same can be said for the SR Instructors and team leaders. None of the instructors put themselves above anyone else. Corrections were offered constructively.

There is no comparison with other trainings I have taken. The USAU Club coach was one day of instruction and a test. The ISSA are written home tests and a training video. The NSCA CAT is a written test only. This is by far the most complete and demanding I have encountered.

Jason Therrien, Personal Trainer, Colorado Springs, Co

Athletic Achievements, training background or specialty:

CSCS, NSCA-CPT

This one of the most positive environments that I have been in. the instructors as well as the students were all on the same page when it came to dialing everything in. It’s nice to see that a “work ethic” still exists.

It has been a while since I have been in the presence of true teachers. They really know how to apply no-nonsense teaching with respect and compassion for the students.

Thanks for all the help and thanks to Pavel for introducing the kettlebell to the U.S. I wouldn’t be who I am today with out it. My highest regards.

Harinder Sabharwal, Martial Arts Instructor, Strategic Business Development Manager, Semi Conductors, San Jose, California

Athletic Achievements, training background or specialty:

Instructor Jeet Kune Do Concepts and Filipino Martial Arts - Under Sifu Paul Vunak Instructor Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do - Under Sifu Larry Hartsell 2nd Degree BlackBelt Okinawan Karate; NCAA Tennis for UC Davis. International Junior Rugby for Canada

Eye opening and motivating experience. I feel that with this knowledge my martial arts and physical goals can be met and furthermore exceeded. This training will help me to realize my full potential.

I was very impressed with the instructors. Pavel is amazing as always. But I felt that the instructors were really well prepared and knew their technical information and the relationship to the human body and movement. I am so inspired!

There is no comparison. I have tried many a method of training, but always felt something was missing. The KB training has filled the void.

I can’t think of anything to improve on. This was the best run seminar I have ever attended. Setting a new standard.

This was truly an amazing experience. I work full-time in a profession (engineering) that I do not like. I have always wanted to not only see what my potential is, but to train others and show them a better future. With this training and the future training to come I feel I will have the knowledge to setup a business doing what I enjoy. For once making me happy!

John Sheaffer, General Contractor, Fitness trainer, Folsom, PA

Athletic Achievements, training background or specialty:

Combat Infantry Veteran, Paratrooper, 82nd Airborne Division, Afghanistan 2003, Martial Arts background, 10 years training in TFT, pursuing further training This course was exceptional. It greatly enhanced my knowledge of the basics and beyond. The wealth of information presented was surreal. If I can apply a fraction of what I learned to my own training I will definitely shatter old PRs.

The entire staff was amazing. The knowledge possessed by the team leaders is truly impressive. Pavel has certainly lived up to the expectations I had of him through reading his books as an extremely knowledgeable, humorous, genuinely nice guy. Again, the instruction was first rate and the instructors absolutely top notch.

The knowledge presented here truly eclipsed any other training I previously had. To make comparisons would truly be an injustice.

The logistics behind this course were amazing. Not even speaking of the course itself, the planning and preparation in the packers and the coordination for lodging etc, was terrific. A+

Altogether an amazing time. Tremendous learning experience. Amazing networking opportunity. Just a phenomenal 3 days.

Real people, real instructions, real results. Excellent quality of training and knowledge of instructors, give deep good quality of kettlebell training.

John Wild Buckley, Personal Trainer, Oakland, CA

The RKC experience will teach you that there is more to you then you thought. You will count minutes of sleep like they are reps of snatches. You will never feel stronger in your life.

Top notch! I knew coming in that I had at least one flaw that I could not identify. I rely on my brute strength for almost everything in lifting even though I try not to. It had never been identified and it has led to pain and missed training. The team at RKC found it and showed me how to fix it! I am dumbfounded and beyond grateful! I have been handed the key to by body. I have much practice ahead, but I will develop the power I am (and have been) looking for. Thank you endlessly.

The staff size was amazing and the instruction was far beyond anything I have done before. My whole world has changed. I had no idea how strong I could become.

The RKC training is the most knowledge imparting and professional of any certification I have attended throughout my whole career. Simply put, there is no higher bar and the RKC leaves others in the dust.

Jessie Shea, Customer Relations Manager, San Diego, CA

It has strengthened my passion for kettlebells and the desire not only to become a master myself but to pass on to other the amazing benefits one can achieve when training properly.

I had a total blast! There was so much great knowledge passed on, that I can only hope I’ll remember most of it when the time comes for me to teach others. The hands on practice and instruction improved my confidence and abilities with kettlebells and inspired me to be the best I can when training myself and then when I will train others. The system makes sense and I intend to honor that system from this point forward.

Unbelievable! Pavel’s presence is powerful in that he commands respect and attention without having to demand it, his display.

Kim Vigsbo, Professional Bodyguard; Web Designer, Hatboro, PA

Athletic Achievements, training background or specialty:

First of all: Great networking. Always good to work with like-minded people. I found all instructors to be very helpful and eager to share knowledge and tips. It was a very tough weekend, but I enjoyed every minute of it.

I am very impressed with the knowledge of all instructors. The lectures were rooted in solid knowledge and the training clearly displayed great experience.

Eric Leverenz, Fire Captain, Irvine, CA

An incredibly simple way to get into the best physical condition possible. Simple but not easy, it still takes dedication and work.

Incredible group of people. There appears to be a deep respect by each and every instructor for Pavel. He has an incredible understanding of the body and it’s movements and what it takes to perform and correct them.

The best training seminar I’ve had. From the quality of the material, to the quality of the instructors, it was excellent. The accommodations were also very good.

The training was worth the pain.

Pavel is a true leader and master. He is tough yet humble. He respects everyone the same. My team leader Ms. Du Pain was very knowledgeable and she knows what she wants to see and I love that.

Friendly! Awesome! Life changing! No matter if you are a fitness professional or a health professional this course will change your perspective on health and fitness forever!

The instructors are the most qualified in the country and I am proud to be a part of the RKC family.

The very best! So much information, that it is hard to take it all in but I will keep learning. I have been to a lot of seminars and this by far is the best and worth every penny.

Harder than anything else, even a Juan Carlos Santana workout at a Perform Better Conference. Extremely practical for anybody, deconditioned person to a high level athlete.

Sara Georges, Server, Wayzata, MN

The certification training was exciting and intense, the energy within was uplifting and exhausting all at the same time. Loved it!

It was be far superior to all other training certifications I have attended and the level of knowledge and skills far beyond any previous experience I have had. I feel filled with knowledge and thriving for my own improvement so I can continue to the next level of RKC.

Amazing! I have never attended a seminar filled with so many Sr. and Team instructors with so much knowledge. The knowledge and instruction was practical and useful unlike some seminars and certifications I have attended that I either wanted to sleep through or felt as though they were just trying to fill space (time) with content that was not practical for client training.

Michael House, Fitness Director, Houston, TX

Athletic Achievements, training background or specialty:

Former professional and amateur boxer; master's exercise physiology USA Weightlifting / Club Coach; CSCS

The most complete and thorough certification because of the constant repetition and individual instruction. I feel that I learned more at this certification/workshops than I ever did at any other workshop. This workshop included strength, flexibility, breathing, proper kettlebell instruction, and was a COMPLETE joy to attend. Most other certifications are textbook BULLSHIT with no practical application. Swinging 53lbs overhead 72 times with no break means something!

Excellent all the way around the board!! No bullshit is what I liked the most!!

Mike Sliviak, Project Manager, Sandy Lake, PA

No book or DVD could come close to giving me such a thorough education. Having multiple instructors offering help and suggestion was vital to learning so much in so little time.

The training of the senior instructors matched Pavel’s. The team leaders and assistants could relate to the flaws that were taking place and gave proper corrective actions.

My hamstrings are so tight and dominant that I was having a difficult time recruiting my glutes. Travis gave me a tip to extremely rotate my hips which immediately got the snap in my hips.

Mike Capper, Management Accountant, Auckland, New Zealand

The RKC certification training workshop is a tough physically demanding workshop that will tax you physically and mentally. However the information that is provided is gold. You may think you can use kettlebells but the deal is in the detail and the RKC system will give you the skills and knowledge to take your training and your clients training to another level.

The quality of training and knowledge provided was of the highest level A+++. The instruction on Friday was excellent but Pavel takes it to another level. His knowledge is immense. I love the Russian anecdotes and sayings and pearls of wisdom from Russian training. Coming from a power lifting background I particularly like hearing from Rif’s background and about other strength training. I enjoyed the joint mobility workshops and everything else that was taught. My team leader Jason Brown provided brilliant instruction and support.

I have taken limited other courses but I think RKC would leave the others for dead. I love that it is physically demanding and has a tough test. I am sick of seeing other so called “experts” in the fitness field who can’t practice what they preach….unlike RKC’s.

Bret Kottler, Nutritionist,

There is a wide variety of skill between the instructors, some with physiology and anatomical knowledge that can pinpoint imbalances in muscle form or function, others that have exacting skill with form, and still others with experiential knowledge, that can give tips on things that can only be learned by real world knowledge. Pavel has chosen his captains well.

The physical conditioning rivals anything I’ve under taken before, but the real benefit lies in the knowledge gained, and the mental reconditioning.

Connie Hardie, Talent Agent, Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA

Athletic Achievements, training background or specialty:

Gymnastics, Swimming, Ballet, Squash, Tennis (7 yrs intensely), Weight training, and kettlebells for one full year.

An intense three days, with extremely knowledgeable instructors, which gave me an expansive spectrum of subjects and information.

Top drawer!! I found all instruction to be clean, concise, in depth, with lot of time to ask questions and have them answered so I never felt I left not knowing.

David Letizia, Personal Trainer, Mesa, AZ

Athletic Achievements, training background or specialty:

MS NeuroScience

A highly informative seminar that created a deeper understanding of the movement patterns needed to properly train with kettlebells.

They were all excellent, very professional. Everything ran very smoothly. However, there was enough humor provided to lighten the mood to allow participants to relax as to perform better. I look forward to being able to continue training with them in the future. The RKC was superior to other training. Very information plus very hands on.

Kate Summers, Social Worker, Santa Monica CA

Athletic Achievements, training background or specialty:

5+ years Chinese martial arts training with Dr. Mark Cheng RKC II Licensed clinical social worker

My experience was profound! It was a little bit like having a baby: people can tell you what it’s like- you can prepare for it as bet you can – but the experience is beyond all that. You just have to have it. I had the opportunity to go way beyond what I ever thought I could do – for that I am deeply grateful….AND I want to go so much further.

I was extremely impressed by all of the team leaders – as communicators, as careful teachers, as motivators and as role models. I was also truly inspired by Pavel. I am someone who has performance anxiety at times – yet when he “volunteered” me to come up in front of the group and get some corrections on my techniques – I found that I was totally comfortable and at ease! I think he has a unique ability to call forth the best from people and inspire them – his seniors have this too! Great role models!

I have a very excellent teacher for martial arts and kettllebells – but this provided me with a concentrated experience that was incomparable. Wow I feel like in terms of kettlebells I will approach my training very differently – since I know what I want to achieve much more clearly now. I’m excited to see where I go with this – both personally and before long professional.

Richard Hruby, Osteopathic physician, St Louis Park, MN

It gave me the confidence to teach. My “eye” developed a great deal watching the instructors correct the people in our small group. Superior knowledge and information, with the ability to share it in an accessible way.

Jason Struck, Personal Trainer, Richmond, VA

Athletic Achievements, training background or specialty:

Competitor in Judo, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Submission Wrestling ISSA CFT

If I were asked to summarize my experience of the Russian Kettlebell Certification Training in a couple of sentences, I would say:

Intensive indoctrination into a system. Great experience of learning with like minded individuals. Practical, useable information.

Pavel has an amazing eye for movement. He sets a standard for intelligent/practical analysis of key training issues. He also communicates reasons for problems, why they must be addressed and how to solve them with practical techniques. Some of the seniors are quite comparable.

Quality was exceptionally high. Scope was narrow (good: quality vs. quantity) Practical use was directly applicable..

-NCAA D3 All New England, 35 lb weight throw 2007

Pavel and the other seniors were very outgoing and very knowledgeable. They packed a lot of info into our weekend. Brett Jones was my team leader and he did a great job, especially the 1st day when he had to double as Chief instructor. My assistants (Dr. Mark Cheng, Like Lucas, and Mike Stehle) were all very helpful with my techniques and motivated me in workouts. They corrected me but also offered positive feedback. Good energy by all.

It is the best in all categories, I am a track and field thrower. So it is very relevant to me personally. Very simple concepts, easy to learn with good instruction.

Phil Scarito, Personal Trainer, Bryn Mawr, PA

The bottom line is that there is always room for improvement, when training with kettlebells and this program really changed and enhanced my form.

Material and scope was amazing. I learned a great deal of info that will be able to share with my clients.

I can summarize in 3 words. Professionalism, Respectfulness, Motivational.

Professionalism sums it all up. I loved the structure and time frame. I am very structure oriented. Tell me when, where and why. I especially appreciated my team leader’s professionalism and knowledge and soft spoken demeanor. Thank you Andrea Du Cane! You have made me a better girvek!

This has affected me greatly and will affect my future students. Thank you.

Trained and completed 2 marathons, Have taught Group aerobic Classes for 15 years holding certifications in Primary, Step, Kickboxing, Yoga and Spinning.  In order to keep certifications current, I have attended three world sport and spinning conferences in Miami, Florida.

I am so excited! It was/is an experience at age 36, I will never forget. I feel more confident then ever. Stronger than ever, more motivated than ever. I am buzzed to have been able to cross over to the dark side! Thank you.

Beyond a doubt – their knowledge, experience, education are second to none. They are truly passionate about what they do and it shows. All of them had my full attention – the real deal matters. I respect them and am thankful I had the opportunity to participate.

Among the best I have ever attended. There was not an “I” or “t” missed. I appreciate the thoroughness and can’t think of anything I am disappointed in. I just attended the world sports and spinning conference in May. Maddogg Athletics is dialed in and so are you. Thank you for not disappointing me.

Extremely organized for large group. Info ahead of time invaluable. Manual excellent, Flow super.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you to Doug Nepodal and the entire RKC team. I definitely plan to attend additional certifications. I have 3 boys and plan to have another baby. I started KB 9 months ago, 4 months after delivering my 3rd son. I had 45lbs to lose and jeans to fit into. I did it with Doug and KB! I want to tap into this area.

Very professional, and very well throughout curriculum. Very good at addressing individual leakages in form and able to communicate that at all levels. Exceptional all in all.

The most on hands and practical. Any question was intelligently addressed. Very cohesive group.

I loved kettlebells before I came to the training and when I was done I knew it would be part of my life style.

Pavel was everything and more as an instructor. Few people have a presence like he does. He is very blunt, but very motivating. I think his style (system) roots out weak-minded people, keeps the integrity of the RKC instructor.

It was by far the mot practical course I have taken. I feel ready to implement what I have learned to my business. The training was also very intense and physically demanding.

I was impressed with the high quality of all the instructors. They are genuinely passionate about KBs/RKC. They also seemed to really care about the students. I was on team McElree. All three of the instructors were great.

Renee Sliviak, Office Manager, Sandy Lake, PA

Athletic Achievements, training background or specialty:

Half Marathon Triathalon

Very good program, a lot of great information. I really learned my strengths and also methods to help improve my weaknesses.

A lot more information and explanation of the drills and why or why not you need to do certain things. Stressed safety and quality – not how much weight and how many reps.

Excellent. It helped me look at all my activities – Running and showing horses differently – quality not quantity.

Anton Summers, Tai Chi Instructor, Santa Monica, CA

Athletic Achievements, training background or specialty:

5+ training in Grappling, and Chinese and Korean martial arts

It was definitely a life changing experience. I feel like I’ve been handed such a valuable tool for all aspects of life, that I can’t express enough gratitude towards Pavel and Dragon Door. I was pushed far beyond anything I thought I was capable of doing. I have a new sense of confidence not only in training but in life.

My team leader was Mark Reifkind. I was amazed by his immense amount of knowledge and experience. I felt very taken care of the whole time and was always in good hand. The assistant Travis was also extremely helpful.

Antony Fernandes, Weightlifting Coach, Dijon, FRANCE

Athletic Achievements, training background or specialty:

Weightlifting Coach, Strength Coach for short track and rugby.

With only one tool, you can work all your muscles. You don’t waste your time to make the “the butterfly” between all the machines in a weight room. (and your money too)

You can work all you physical qualities – strength, endurance, flexibility.

George “Ruggy” Joesten, Radio Show Producer, San Diego, CA

Very informative. I feel like I am well-equipped to pass along the knowledge I’ve learned to future clients. I also feel comfortable that I can keep my “victims” safe.

The training was incredible. Pavel was great, but I really loved Brett Jones style of teaching – I learned a ton from Brett and admire his “manual” way of teaching. Jon Engum was great as well. Made my learning experience very comfortable.

Cynthia Glass, Analyst, Portola Valley, CA

The best, hardest thing I’ve ever done.

Excellent. I always felt I had lots of people to ask questions who could offer consistent, good information. I appreciated that sometimes my trainers said “I don’t know”

I have limited experience training at anything. I started working with a trainer last winter because I was feeling dull and bored with cycling – which had always been my true love athletically. Picking up a kettlebell changed my world. I’d been having success with weights etc. but I picked up the KB and everything accelerated. I looked around the fancy gym I’d joined and thought “Hmm. I don’t’ need you anymore.” I’ll quit when my contract ends in 9 days.

Nicole Martino, Occupational Therapist, Sparks, NV

Athletic Achievements, training background or specialty:

Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy with knowledge in neuro-rehabilitation.

My ultimate personal challenge of the year!

All very professional and knowledgeable. Always had appropriate feedback on my form and techniques.

I haven’t ever taken anything like this before. Prior to a year ago I didn’t know what a kettlebell was nor had I been to a gym regularly. Overall, it was a great experience and makes me want to do more.
