AMAG KB Workshop, Feb. '08

Had an excellent workshop last week with Rannoch in Aberdeen. He delivered and confident, informative and good paced workshop to us who had limited or no experience with the KB`s previously. I fell into the KB expereince instantly and have really enjoyed utilising them in my workouts last week.
The support / follow up information Rannach supplies is top notch - true to his word.
I hope to meet and work with Rannoch again soon and develop my training in the KB`s. I would definatey recommend him as your instructor in KB training!

Kettlebell Workshop
Rated 10 out of 10
Spent a terrific 3 hours at Rannoch's Kettlebell Worshop last Sunday afternoon at Bourghmuir. Having never exercised with this equipment before I was very impressed how clearly and professionally Rannoch explained and demonstrated the technique required for getting started.
He talked through each exercise, demonstrated how it was to be done and explained which muscle groups and which parts of the body were being worked by each movement. All done in a friendly, easy and light-hearted way, Rannoch is an excellent communicator who is not just a very good instructor, but also a really nice guy who's enthusiasm for his passsion of kettlebell training is infectious in its nature. I am now looking forward to start training regularily with kettlebells just as soon as I get the feeling back in my knees !!

As a qualified Fitness Instructor I am very keen to develop sporting interests which don't just exist within a gym or studio. I found the Kettlebell course, delivered by Rannoch, to support this interest. He was able to convince me that from one piece of training equipment not only could you develop a much stronger and healthier body, but could reduce work out times to 10 minutes. For those who lead busy lifestyles this is hugely appealing, including myself. Rannoch delivered the course well, was patient with every member in the class and made you really think about your own work out regimes.

Introduction to Kettlebells 22 June 2008
Rated 10 out of 10
I attended an excellent course on introduction to kettlesbells with Rannoch yesterday in Edinburgh. Rannoch presented the material in an interesting and informative manner. As one who has never quite been able to understand the gym culture this is definately a type of exercise regime that appeals. Rannoch explained how training with kettlebells relates to every day life and overall fitness rather than body building and weight training. Although it probably could be used for that too if that's what one wanted.
I will definately keep up the training. The most appealing thing is that it will not take a lot of time out of your day and it can be done almost anywhere.
Rannoch is an excellent teacher and the class is peppered with interesting anecdotes about kettlebells.

the session was great with plenty of time given to practice each technique and continual feed back during practice on what you where doing.
Rannoch is great with the way that he demonstrated and showed why each exercise was good, benefits for your body and how to put them into action as part of a regular routine. with information on how to strengthen joints to reduce injury as well i thought this was great

Introductory Session

I recently took part in an introductory session to kettlebells with Rannoch. The session was very enjoyable and I felt that we had a good grounding in the basic technique used with the weights. Rannoch was an excellent instructor taking time to ensure that each participant was using the kettlebell correctly. I certainly will be incorporating kettlebells into my keep fit regime.

Rannoch provided an excellent introduction to kettlebells and really made me want to learn more - his view point on why we try to keep fit and healthy (but without spending endless hours in the gym) really made a lot of sense. It is definitely a technique I would like to get to grips with and include as part of my exercise routine.

I recently participated in Rannoch's introduction course at Edinburgh University. It was a very enjoyable and enlightening hour. I hadn't ever tried kettlebells before and found them a challenging way to train. I will definately be incorporating them into my training sessions.

I am now a complete kettlebell addict, I'm off to practice now actually but before I do that theres a few things I have to say:
Rannoch is not only passionate about what he does as you can clearly see at his workshop and his weekly classes but his instruction is clear, effective and proffesional you don't know how to train with kettlebells until you try this workshop. He has a technique he coaches that will increase your performance and have you leaping in front in no time at all. As a PT and a Former Soldier I have trained in ways which would make the hardest of men cry, but now I have taken on this new skill, I have found out there is even tougher ways to train in a shorter time but actually more effective and a hell of a lot more fun!!
Thanks Rannoch for showing me how to train for real!!
Don't hesitate get in touch and get swinging!!

This was my first experience with the kettlebells and I am very glad I waited to try them until I had done the workshop with Rannoch. He's an excellent instructor giving clear and to the point explanations and demonstrations. When its your turn to try he's right there correcting your technique and making sure you're learning it the right way. His teaching is well structured and builds in a logical way from the first principles. The advantage of this to me was even tho I struggled to get decent technique with the Cleans during the workshop, when I got home I just kept applying the basics and its 2 days latter and I'm feeling like I'm starting to get them now.
All in all I would strongly recommend this workshop if you want to learn kettlebells
Nigel - Northumberland
Rannoch Donald's training methods were excellent. I found the beginning of the workshop with the body weights and mobility training as edifying as the kettlebell instructions themselves. The workshop focused on the understanding and use of the proper techniques required. During the workshop Rannoch told us of future workshops involving different techniques I, after experiencing Rannoch's meticulous instruction will be in attendance and I would try to persuade anyone interested in in kettlebell training or simply their own wellbeing to attend.

KB workshop-Edinbugh June 1st
Rated 10 out of 10
This was my my introduction to kettlebells and was gratefull to have Rannoch as my instructor. He is obviously an expert but had no problem at all in communicating his knowledge simple and precisely.
A great structure to the class. We started simply to build confidence, increasingly complex as the session continued and by the end of the short workshop we had the skill level to enjoy (if thats the right word) a great workout.
By the completion of the session I had learned a lot and am keen to learn more. A fabulous workshop to take-no matter what your skill level or motivation for training is.

Superb Instruction
Rated 10 out of 10
Rannoch has a great understanding of health/fitness/mobility and teaches his concepts very well. I really like how he ensures that all the basic fundamentals (the most important stuff) are really emphasised and explained precisely. This has enabled me to gain benefits very quickly from KB training and I believe it has helped me move on to the more advanced exercises quickly.
The most encouraging thing about Rannoch's teaching style is that he always wants to make sure that the exercise is enjoyable and specific to your needs. A great instructor that I would recommend anyone to train with, I certainly will be for a long time.

Highly Recommended Kettlebell Instructor
Rated 10 out of 10
Rannoch is an excellent instructor. His intelligent and practical approach to hard-style training will give you a rock hard foundation on which to build and grow, whether you are new to kettlebells or have been using them for some time.
While the base hard-style drills can appear quite simple, the devil is always in the detail and developing and maintaining good form can be challenging. Assuming your goals include learning how to use kettlebells safely and effectively, you will not go far wrong if you receive instruction from Rannoch.

After a recent workshop fell through Rannoch kindly invited myself and a friend to his own home to go through the finer details of technique on exercises we had been doing and give us some new ones to work on. This was a massive learning curve and well worth the 4 hour drive each way!
This was the first time I had any tuition from Rannoch and was extremely impressed with his knowledge, passion and generosity letting us visit his family home.
If the oppurtunity arrises and you are truly serious about kb's and the massive differences it can make to your training then see Rannoch either at 1 of his workshops or 1 of his classes....Its well worth it.
LET'S GET RKC CERTIFICATION IN THE UK!!!

Not just for muscular types
Rated 10 out of 10
I first heard of kettlebells at the local leisure centre where my 13 year old son and I had enquired about weight training classes for him. Having first been told that under 16s were not allowed to use weights we were advised by a very sympathetic trainer to turn our attention to KBs which he regarded as the best weight training method for all sorts of sports, especially for a 13 year old rugby player. We therefore decided to attend one of Rannoch's workshops and simply never looked back.
I am not the muscular type, never used weights before, and don't do martial arts. I love cycling and hill walking and consider myself above average fitness. I went to the workshop to encourage my son to stick to his plans and now I'm very glad I did. Although we were the youngest and the oldest (I'm in my 50s) we soon realised that what really matters with KBs is technique and co-ordination and never felt out of place, and once we began mastering them we were keeping up with extremely fit looking men and women.
Rannoch's liveliness and enthusiasm were certainly contagious and kept the workshop moving forwards at a good pace, with everybody interested. His thorough preparation and attention to detail meant that we would be able to do at home the dozen or so basic exercises we learned on the day.
I was a little worried that KBs would reawaken the back problems which I had managed painstakingly to resolve. I needn't have worried as the emphasis is on the proper use of back and limbs and correct technique. My biggest problem now is not to get carried away and try instead to build up my strength steadily without jumping to heavier KBs. I'm looking forward to the next workshop with Rannoch, to expand the range of exercises and maybe take part in outdoor sessions on the Meadows.

KB Workshop in Edinburgh

I recently completed a 3-hour seminar with Rannoch and found it to be excellent in just about every respect. He is thorough, patient, and very good at breaking down the mechanics of the techniques. He is also excellent at follow-up and responding to feedback, which is always a bonus with an instructor.
I tend to get bored easily with repetive work-outs, and am extremely pleased to be able to add another technique to my repertoire. The kettlebell is incredibly simple and provides ample opportunity to vary your workout routine. Hihgly recommended for people of all fitness levels.

I must admit I went along to Rannoch's workshop with some trepidation - not entirely convinced that swinging heavy Russian weights around wasn't more for big burly guys, rather than fit but relatively slender girls like me. But I needn't have worried. The workshop was a great introduction and Rannoch's clear, inspiring teaching style made it fun and accessible for all. I'd recommend his workshops to anyone.

Before the seminar I hadn't even seen a KB let alone pick one up. Rannoch introduces the techniques in a plain, simple and effective manner and gives you the confidence to try them yourself. I was surpirsed at how quickly it became comfortable to do the exercises and that is thanks to Rannoch's great ability to transfer his knowledge to the student. He comes across as a really nice guy and you get the feeling that a 3 hour seminar does not even scratch the surface of his knowledge. As a martial artist and instructor I will definitely be including the KBs in my training. I would recommend Rannoch to anyone who wanted to learn the Kettlebells.
Thanks again Rannoch.

Girls/ladies if you love body pump get yourself down to Rannoch's next workshop. I read about Kettlebells in one of my girlie mags and thought hey I can do that. Less time working out but better results - lets be honest girls thats what we're all after. Bought my Kettlebell and DVD and off I went. Watched DVD and tried a few of the exercises and wasn't sure if I was doing the exercises correctly. So decided I would try a workshop to ensure I wasn't going to hurt myself.
Had a great time, Rannoch is very patient, enthusiastic and good at explaining techniques. He has a wealth of knowledge and let me tell you you'll love the last 3 minutes of the workshop!!!! Rannoch is also excellent at keeping in touch and sending info after the workshop - not a lot of instructors would do this. This workshop was great for people of all abilities.
Give it a try you will love it!!

If you are interested in being taught Kettlebells techniques, then I highly recommend you enrol in one of Rannoch's workshops - what you learn will last a lifetime. I have wanted to learn KB's for a few years now but never got round to it. Rannoch made it easy by coming to our Gym. I found him very professional and a strong clear communicator with good focus on safety and technique.
I really feel that I can start getting an effective workout from the KB's straight away with all the follow up e-mails with workouts and diagrams of the moves. I cant wait until our KB's arrive and we plan to get Rannoch back to move me and my personal training buddies to the next level.

Well done Rannoch, and thanks for all the post workshop support.

8kg to a 16kg kettlebell - effective strength training
Rated 10 out of 10
Being a fairly skinny guy who has flirted with gym routines I was initially skeptical about kettlebell training. I was convinced to attend a 6 week course with Rannoch Donald by a work colleague and I haven't looked back. Rannoch's clear and inclusive approach to kettlebell instruction meant I achieved the basics quickly, improving strength and I even moved from an 8kg to a 16kg kettlebell within a month.
Occasional outdoor classes added an extra layer to Rannoch's instruction making it a fun and stimulating class.
I would highly recommend kettlebells training with Rannoch Donald to everyone regardless of your level of training and your fitness aims.

I attended the KB basics workshop with Rannoch a month ago. As a "middle age martial artist" I was looking for a time efficient way of improving my conditioning that was suited to MA. I had heard of Kettle Bells but did not want to start without some instruction for fear of injury. I went to Rannoch's workshop and three hours later came away confident I could make a start with the basic KB techniques and enthusiastic to get on and do it. A month later I'm still as enthusiastic and making good progress using the knowledge gained from the workshop.Rannoch is a top class teacher and his workshop excellent. If you want to get into Kettle Bells do the workshop with Rannoch.

What I enjoyed the most is that it was totally idiot proof and believe me that's what I need. Easy to learn and easy to practice on your own. The level of safety was of the utmost importance and makes all the diffrence to working on your own. I highly recommend this course and will be doing futher courses with Rannoch.

Rannoch is the consummate professional, very friendly and supportive, and a pleasure to work out with. I've been training with kettlebells for slightly over a year. I will definitely continue to work out with him and seek his advice. Highly recommended.

He shows that all you really need to improve your fitness, strength and flexibility are a few core exercises that only require a short space of time to complete.

My wife and I attended Rannoch's workshop in St Giles church in Edinburgh recently and would thoroughly recommend it. Rannoch is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and the workshops are definitely suitable for all abilities and levels of experience. We were both complete beginners but didn't feel nearly as stupid as we thought we would - Rannoch is equally adept with beginners, and with those who take it rather more seriously!
I am continuing to train at home, and I know that Rannoch is only an email away if I have any questions.

I've picked up a lot of injuries over the years and have been looking for another form of exercise that can increase my strength, improve my cardio fitness and flexibility all without placing to much impact on my joints. Rannoch's website was a good starting point on what KBs were, but must admitt I was probably a little cynical about the claims!
But I did go along to Rannoch's workshop in November with an open mind and I'm very glad that I did. Some people might be tempted to learn about KBs through books and DVDs, but I would thoroughly recommend face-to-face instruction. Rannoch broke down each lift very clearly, demonstrated the lift, and let us get on with it. When techniques weren't being done properly, Rannoch corrected us as we went along (something a book or DVD can't achieve) to ensure safety and maximum benefit.
I train regulalry with free weights, but the benefits of KBs are very obvious to me. I've invested in a KB and am keeping up the practice. Very helpful, down to earth intruction - highly recommended!

Having compleated a workshop by Rannoch earlier this month, i felt that i had to leave a little bit on how great it was.
The class was made up of a mixed group. From those that were mega unfit and havent done much in the way of exercise for sometime(me) to folks that workout regularly, and his teaching method was able to accomodate these different levels of abilities.
Rannoch is very friendly and very approachable with what i felt was a well structured class, everymove was demonstrated and practised with particular points pointed out about safety and proper technique.
He also provides great customer service with regards to contact after the workshop and in assisting with any purchases from him.
All in all, after this workshop i felt confident enough that i could practice safely at home.
I look forward to using his services again!

Fantastic Introduction to Kettlebells
Rated 10 out of 10
I attended the introductory workshop and found Rannoch to be an extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic teacher. In addition to being an expert in Kettlebells, Rannoch also has breadth and depth of experience in martial arts. This is extremely valuable as Kettlebell users come in all shapes and sizes and have different motivations - getting fit, losing weight, improving functionality in a particular sport or martial art.
I think Rannoch's approach caters to all needs and he places emphasis on safety and form before 'showing off'.
Before starting out with Kettlebells, an introductory course is essential (I wouldn't use a book or you tube videos to show me how it's done) - and Rannoch's workshop is ideal.

I have been training KBs privately with Rannoch. In terms of knowldege transfer he is an excellent instructor. Patient and thorough; Rannoch makes sure you get it right and places a lot of emphasis on safety. He has a great knowledge of MA's and strength and conditioning thats why I would train with him over any of the other so called KB instructors out there. I can give him a specific aspect of my game and he gives me the KB exercise to maximise my performance. Whether it's exercises to improve my throws or striking he has all the tools. My workouts are now shorter, more intense which allows me more time to practice on other areas of my training. So far I have been injury free since training KBs which is somthing that I always had problems with when training free weights. In short my conditioning is better, grip and striking strength have greatly improved. A+++

Having read most of Pavel's books and watched the Enter the Kettlebell DVD a few times I was familiar with most of the things that were taught in Rannoch's workshop. However seeing the moves demonstrated and having him there to correct form and explain things in more detail than time allowed on the DVD was very useful.
Rannoch is an excellent teacher who knows how to communicate clearly to people of all levels of experience. He took the basic concepts and ensured that we understood what we were doing and why we were doing it. He took time to correct the minor mistakes that we were making and was approachable and friendly in his style. His focus on training firstly for health was especially useful as was the focus on safety and I picked up a few ideas to help keep my back healthy.
I'd recommend anyone to take one of his workshops to learn about the RKC approach to kettlebell training.

I have been using kettle bells on and off for about 18 months self taught from books and DVD's. It makes a big difference seeing them worked face to face and you can't help but improve from it.
Rannoch managed to pass on a lot of information in an informal and relaxed way that made for a good atmosphere.
I have already recommended his workshops to several people.

I attended Rannoch's introductory 3-hours Kettle Bell workshop in Edinburgh. Having had a taster for KBs, I was keen to get a proper induction from Scotland's first RKC. The workshop - pitch, format and duration - was ideal and essential for anyone who is serious about learning and practising KBs. I'm looking forward to further instruction/ classes with Rannoch. I am also convinced that KBs are a genuine and credible alternative to weight-training, but with the benefit that you can achieve much more in much less time and on your own door-step.
I strongly recommend Rannoch's workshops/ classes for men and women.

Be confident about your RKC form
Rated 10 out of 10
I have been using Kettlebells on and off for about a year now. Up until yesterday I had never seen anyone use them face to face and was not entirely sure of my own form using them.
Even though the exercises taught on the day of the workshop I attended where not new to me, I was still able to use the experience to help refine my form and feel confident that what I had learned myself from books and dvds was correct. I learned or was reminded of the more subtler points of KB lifting in nearly all of the core exercises.
The atmosphere was good, the facilities were good and the instruction was clear and insightful. Do yourself a favour, whether you been using KBs for a while or are a complete beginner....take a workshop with Rannoch.
Highlight of my day - seeing a pistol live. Impressed the hell out of me!!

Hey, I am an average bloke. I do not go to the gym, I have a child, work and have little free time. Kettlebells showed me the way forward that allows me to take control of myself and not rely on training partners, gym memberships or class schedules.
Rannoch's a superb coach and motivator too. I'd recommend his Kettlebell Workshops to anyone interested in an effective way of improving and maintaining fitness.

Great training for women from a great instructor

Kettle Bells looks like it might be very hard work for the fairer sex, who let's face it don't usually relish lifting weights. However, Rannoch explained the techniques very clearly, and made the workshops fun and more importantly, safe. Having suffered sporadic back pain I was worried that 8/12kg weights would be damaging, but I actually found my back was a lot better after a workout.
I recommend this class for men and women, it's a very welcome relief from the gym.

I never thought I would say PAH! to the gym, but Rannoch has certainly shown me a new way of total body training.
He is a very good instructor and is quick to give pointers if he sees you are struggling. Rannoch will also ensure you are able to train by taking you through mobility exercises, which are a must.
I agree with the previous reviews, if you want to train properly and live in Edinburgh, Rannoch for RKB.

I was introduced to kettle bell training by Rannoch and have now done his six workshops. I have enjoyed them all and have learnt how to do things properly and safely, very important! Kettle bell training is a complete training system, strength, endurance, coordination, fitness, the lot and it works every muscle in your body. If you want to get fit and in shape and you live in Edinburgh I recommend joining Rannochs classes.

I met Rannoch at a martial arts seminar one weekend and got to talking about kettlebells. He invited me along for a taster session and I've not looked back since. He shows you precisely what you need without dressing anything up, but if you want to delve deeper into any aspect of your training he clearly has a broad range of knowledge on this subject and a whole host of related stuff and is always more than happy to share this knowledge, give you pointers or just shoot the breeze. Always available for help or advice and seemingly happy to go above and beyond to make sure you're getting the most you possibly can from your training.
Overall, a top class instructor and a good guy to boot. Scotland's first and only (at present) RKC certified instructor comes highly recommended from at least one student.

I took Rannoch's introductory workshop in June and it was excellent. He is an excellent trainer, very patient and very thorough. He made sure every member of the class understood the moves and form, so as not to hurt themselves.
He talked quite a bit about mobility exercises and how to make sure you look after yourself - all v.good and I have been doing my mobility exercises ever since and feeling better for it.
I would highly recommend this class for anyone interested in learning how to use kettlebells. I will be booking my next class soon!

Flawless Seminar
Rated 10 out of 10
I recently took part in one of Rannoch's Kettle Bell seminars in Arbroath, and can safely say that my eyes have been well and truly opened.
I have been a frequent visitor to the gym, and had stuck by this method of gaining strength and fitness... That was until Rannoch opened an Aladdin's cave of KB fitness training. I had thought that the seminar would have merely been about how to use a kettlebell to perform lifts excersizes as opposed to a dumb-bell, and was taken very pleasantly by surprise as an entire unbeknown fitness system was released to me that seemed to make much much more sense naturally than roaring out a few large weights in the gym. The experience was like watching a brilliant film, despite knowing very little about it before you go to watch!
The system is based on more natural movements, and as a result is capable of keeping the practitioner in very good health, minus the strains and pulleds muscles i experienced in the gym. Because it is based on explosive power and endurance, the KB system is invaluable to anyone, like me, who trains frequently in combative arts.
The cherry on top of this highly enjoyable and informative session however, was Rannoch. He sparkled as he took the class and was incredibly motivational, friendly and patient all without any compromise to his professionalism. He was very resourceful in explaining the finer points and always had a trick to demonstrate or describe the movement very clearly.
At the end of the seminar, i was dripping sweat and loving it. My eyes had been opened to the wonders of Kettlebells and in the space of only a few hours, my ideas of gaining fitness had been drastically changed. And completely for the better. It had been a thoroughly enjoyable, very flawlessly taught seminar, and i am looking forward to my future with kettlebells!

KB Workshop at Tactical Edge HQ
Rated 10 out of 10
I just had the pleasure of hosting Rannoch at my Gym in Arbroath for students from all my adults classes & some guests. My personal reason for getting him up was because I am introducing KB's as our standard method of conditioning for my adults programmes.
Rannoch is an excellent instructor who gets over all the important points with patience & humour. My students absolutely loved it, & many invested in KB's after the seminar.
A good barometer of how successful an instructor is can be found by how many participants ask when they're coming back. I'm glad to say many asked me, & he'll be back in October.

Fantastic Seminar
Rated 10 out of 10
I just took part in a Kettlebells seminar here in Arbroath under the watchful eye of Rannoch Donald. I have to admit that I had been working through some kettlebell DVD's prior to the seminar, which had stood me in good stead on the day! What a workout u get, and Rannoch made it fun as well as informative which is the best way to learn something new.
It's something that has now become part of my everyday life, I love it! It builds strong explosive power, without bulking up, and endurance, both of which are needed in the martial arts world! The muscle tone results you see and feel in your own body are fast! Rannoch taught us several different types of press-ups too, which, when explained made complete sense as to why we should be doing them in that way. Although I have to admit they are tough!! Rannoch explained about mobility excersises and how important it was to look after your body. He also explained how kettlebells worked your body as one unit and demonsrated each technique with ease.
Rannoch teaches and demonstrates in such a way that you catch on very quickly. His approach was very friendly and down to earth. Rannoch also made it clear that we were all welcome to get in touch with him with any questions after the seminar was over. Fantastic!
I look forward to continuing down the kettlebell path and also to Rannoch returning again in October if not before! I'm hooked!!

Combat Ready - Kettlebells and Conditioning
Rated 10 out of 10
Like most people who buy a kettlebell with no previous experience I found mine extremely useful for many things. They're excellent at keeping fire doors open, great for tenderising meat and good for bicep curls.
However that was until I attended the Combat Ready - Kettlebells & Conditioning Workshop. I can honestly say this has revolutionised the way that I think about training. Previously conditioning for me meant a diet of free weights and cardio. I had never considered that I could combine the two using kettlebells and body weight exercises and still improve my overall strength and drastically improve my fitness levels. Most importantly I no longer need to consider mobility issues associated with using free weights.
I would highly recommend this course to anyone interested in exercise at any level. Rannoch is obviously fanatical about the concepts and methods he uses and you may be too after training with him. His delivery and attention to detail are what really makes his instruction invaluable. I would not recommend that anyone I know buy a kettlebell or join a gym without first experiencing one of Rannoch's workshops. It turns everything you thought you knew on its head.

For one of the best and most rewarding workouts you'll ever have, head to one of Rannochs workshops on bodyweight and kettlebell training. As a regular gym user i thought i would have no problem firing through the drills and moves shown by Rannoch. I was wrong. The workout he provides effectively hits every part of your body and you really feel you've worked hard after it. The training allows you to work as had hard as you like with no pressure, making it accessable to anyone. This really is a fantastic way to condition your body. If you think you're fit now, try going along to this workshop.

Kettlebell Seminar, Arbroath

A few weeks ago, i had the pleasure of taking part in an amazing Kettlebell Seminar at the Martial Arts gym i attend on a weekly basis. Rannoch is an inspirational instuctor who's strength and abilities are awe inspiring. What a work out! One of the best things about training with Kettlebells is the fact that all fitness levels can benefit instantly through their own hard work and determination. You are in control and simply you reep the benefits depending of how much you put in. What brings a smile to my face is thinking how this simple shaped weight can do so much, but believe me its true. Rannoch takes the time to show you all the moves to optimise your training and really takes the time to make sure you fully understand all he shows you, as safety to him is paramount. The DVD accompanying is simple but extremely effective, thus making this type of training easier to stick to. How many of us have given up on a particular means of getting fit and given up because its too complicated? Well let me assure you Kettlebell training is extremely effective but more importantly easy to follow. I can't wait for Rannoch's return visit to Arbroath and hopefully he'll see a vast improvement in our fitness and strength and its all thanks to him. I invested in my own Kettlebell straight after his class, thats how confident i am of the benefits. Keep up the good work mate, and you can use my name for recommending your Seminar's anytime.

As a mum returning back to exercise, I am looking for something I can do that is flexible and doesn't mean getting a babysitter to trek to the gym. I only managed the warm up but I feel that in the short time I worked every muscle in my body and I although not used the kettlebells yet, Rannoch was very encouraging and helped me keep my confidence to go back and try it again until I master it.
Thank you.

Rannoch recently did a seminar at Mark Davies Blackbelt Academies in Arbroath which I attended. The seminar was very informative and emphasised the fact that exercises (for a martial artist) should be relative to actual combat. I found the seminar to be very informative and thouroughly enjoyable which is the best way to learn!
Any queries put to Rannoch were resolved immediately and at the end of the class the techniques learned were put into practice in a short but effective exercise circuit.
Thanks Rannoch :D

Combat Ready Workshop
Rated 10 out of 10
I recently attended Rannochs combat ready workshop. The session focused on using KB's and bodyweight exercises to achieve the fitness and conditioning required to go the distance in combat.
The exercises taught however are totally beneficial to anyone who participates in sport or is interested in improving their fitness levels. We were taken through a very comprehensive set of warm up and stretching exercises, a range of bodyweight exercises (hindu pressups and squats to name but two),the RKC Program Minimum, cleans and presses and a host of other KB moves. Every exercise was well explained and demonstrated and plenty of time given to practice each one. At the end of the session everything we had been taught was put into a 15 minute circuit which left me soaked in sweat and aching for 2 days afterwards but which was brilliant fun to do and has overnight changed the way I work out. Try this and gone will be the endless hours on the cardio equipment and sets on the weights.
Rannoch is a very enthusiastic and friendly instructor and offers plenty of support and advice after the workshop is over. I would recommend his training to anyone interested in using kettlebells.

I came across kettlebells thru an indirect link on another website, rummaged around for something local, and found Rannoch! I attended my first workshop in February with Dr Mark Cheng undertaking the training. A thorough grounding was gained that day. A fantastic motivator, clear and inspiring teaching. I can see where Rannoch gets his enthusiasm from. I went home vowing to undertake my new found kb training regularly.
Personal events (like preparing for our forthcoming emigration) just got in the way! However, I attended a Rannoch workshop the other weekend in Edinburgh and am glad to say I have been faithfully swinging and get-up-ing with Rannoch's continued encouragement and support.
He's a busy guy, but the workshops are run efficiently, professionally but with a very personal touch. He makes and takes time to get to know his pupils, and I rate him highly for this. KBs are making a difference in only 5 sessions. I will definitely keep this up. I'm only letting myself down if I dont!
I know Rannoch will be there to support me by phone or by email, and although its a bit of a trek to Edinburgh, i will happily attend another workshop if I can before we hit NZ!
He's even offered to find me an instructor out there when we go.
Cheers Rannoch! You are a star! Seona
By the way, ladies, don't feel intimidated if you're new to this. Rannoch will put you at ease and will work you within your capabilities - don't think this is a boys toy! flexibility and stamina will improve no end - give it a go!

As an experienced lifter i though that the session would be fairly easy and would take it in my stride. How wrong could i have been! Today i'm hurting in places i shouldn't but feel a strange sense of pride that i know i trained a lot harder than i normally do. I learned a whole lot abut making the body work a lot harder than just throwing big weights about a gym room. Top quality session and the one on one tuition to get it right is a lot more expensive than the small fee Rannoch charges for his extensive knowledge. Really looking forward to the next one and dying for the guys to comment on how much harder i'm hitting..... i might just share my secret with them then!

I met with Rannoch for a 2 hour one on one instruction to learn the basics and refine my technique. I came away with a lot of new knowledge, especially the intensity involved in proper KB training. Hard style was new to me and I would never have properly understood it without Rannoch's instruction. Rannoch's teaching style is open and relaxed, he insists on proper form and tries different approaches to get his points across. He also mixes in different movements from the Martial Arts world and bodyweight training that make for a varied and intense session. I will definately be seeing Rannoch again for more instruction and will also highly recommend him to anyone.

I attended Rannoch's workshop in Edinburgh on 28 September with two other female fitness instructors.
I found the level of teaching excellent and the fact we were female and hadn't even picked up a kettlebell before did not put us at a disadvantage at all. As a participant I was made to feel supported, encouraged and competent in using the kettlebell.
Rannoch's passion was infectious and I found myself paying close attention to what was being said as I realised I was being taught by someone with great skill and knowledge within the industry. I have so much more to learn and I will be attending as many of Rannoch's workshops and courses as possible.
I would fully encourage any women thinking of attending a workshop to do so.

I really enjoyed this workshop. It was both informative and fun. The session was well structured - plenty of attention to warm-up, use of body weight for conditioning followed by instruction in the fundamental kettlebell swings and lifts then a short workout.
Rannoch is knowledgeable and enthusiastic.
Although I've never been keen on weight machines in gyms - I was so enthused I bought a bell.
I'd recommend this workshop to folk who'd like a conditioning program which is a bit different and doesn't take up very much time.

The actual workshop was really fun and really hard work. Some things I just couldn't do - but Rannoch just got you to break the steps down so you could attempt some of it. Never making you feel embarrassed that you couldn't do it and always supportive throughout.

I started training with an 8kg KB about a month ago, using exercises from the internet & out of magazines.
I've replaced my 5x weekly cardio sessions with 2-3 KB workouts a week, increased my strength, slimmed down and stabilised both my rotator cuffs which I've had trouble with for the last 2 years.
Rannoch's clear, detailed instruction of the basic techniques enabled me to get the minor tweaks missing from written instructions & gave me the confidence to move up to using a 12kg KB.
Rannoch also took the time to help me adjust an exercise so I could work around an injury, which was most appreciated.

I had read a lot of very positive reviews of Rannoch's workshops before I attended last Sunday and I can only agree with them wholeheartedly.I feel there are two major plus points to the workshops- firstly the KB system itself which is based around practical full body movements for fuctional strength and mobility
-and secondly Rannoch's enthusiastic and professional instruction.
I was always aware that there was a problem with my form when preforming squats, yet Rannaoch was the first person to identify what it was and prescribe a cure.

At the workshop this past weekend Rannoch provided a clearly progressed introduction to a physical conditioning regime which is both functional and intense. Having found the time spent both good fun and good learning, I have recommended Rannoch's workshops to my students and friends as a wonderfully concise way to both learn about and experience how short, intense workouts can be built around mobility exercises and Kettlebell drills. Very friendly, open and accessible - liked Rannoch straight away on meeting him. Introductions to Kettle Bells on the web all seem pretty macho - really glad to say this workshop didn't have an ounce of that or for that matter ego. Rannoch created a relaxed, focused, flexible space. Mobility is everything was the key message and we started with mobility warm ups. Then body weight exercises. Then using Kettle Bells. Great fun and an indendent and/or social way to train. I particularly like the integrative nature of KB's - seem to compliment a wide range of other physical activity and Rannoch's approach underlined fitness for everyday use. We did a 10 minute continuous workout at the end and I've discovered deep (slightly aching) muscles I didn't know I have. I'm looking forward to helping my body to start to talk to itself and connect in new ways through this training - building mobility, strength and stamina whilst shedding a few pounds of fat. Thanks Rannoch for a great introduction to KB's.

I have read some docs and seen some videos on the web discussing KB training, but there is no substitute for being in a room with someone who knows what they are doing and who can explain the whys.
Rannoch is a top man and i will be at the KB2 sessions next year
Great way to spend a Sunday afternoon

I may now be addicted to Kettlebells! Having done Level 1, and the fantastic 5 week course at the CSE, Edinburgh University, it just keeps getting better. Although I missed Level 2, I am still determined to get certified next year, that's how good they are! From the beginner exerciser to the more experienced user, there is something for everyone at one of these courses/seminars. And Rannoch's experience, professionalism and passion shines through. Give this a try!

Having read Pavels books and PDF's and having a background in health & fitness. I thought this session MIGHT just be a formality to progress to the harder sessions
How wrong can you be...
I found I had lots of techniques to relearn...
Being shown how to do the movements with proper form allowed me to reconsider mobility and how important it is.
Many gems of wisdom were imparted and at no point were we short of motivation during this session.
A very worthwhile 3 hours with a gentleman who obviously does train how he teaches.
Thanks very much

K1 Workshop
Rated 10 out of 10
Having been given a taster by Rannoch of the joys of Kettlebells, Body Weight and mobility training at KME , I was firmly hooked and really keen to find out more. The K1 Workshop I attended last week was a great event, crammed full of useful information and really made me think about how I could train better and smarter. Rannoch is an excellent instructor, and his passion for kettlebells and generally making the most of yourself by training smart shines through. And while the workshop was about learning, you definitely know you've been working hard the next day! Also really impressed with the follow on information Rannoch is providing to compliment the workshop, and I can't wait to get a kettlebell and start swinging! Will definitely be coming to K2 next, but might make sure I don't have a hangover next time.

Rannoch delivered a comprehensive workshop that has given me the tools to take control of my own fitness regime. If, like me, you struggle to get yourself to the gym and find time for traditional work-outs hard to come by, then kettlebells could be your saviour. I've just ordered my own kettlebells and am excited about putting them to use. Working out with kettlebells seems very achievable - and given how stiff I am after Sunday's workshop - they've definitely had an effect on my body!! Rannoch was a patient & helpful instructor and the follow-up materials & support are excellent. I would definitely recommend this. Thanks :-)

Thoroughly enjoyed the workshop at the weekend and have been enjoying a few aches and pains since. However, with the first element of the session focussed on mobility I actually feel for the first time that I have a better understanding of how my body works and I also feel that I am walking a bit taller and straighter today. Rannoch's approach to coaching builty the exercises up in a way that will be easy to recall and his interaction throughout the workshop was excellent. As above the follow-up materials have been of a very high quality. Thoroughly recommended!

Didn't know what to expect but the three hours passed very quickly. As an unfit, regular swimmer, gym member I was looking for a more dynamic and flexible way to get/stay fit as I get older. KB's may well be it. Rannoch's focus on mobility and practicality not just strength attracted me to the session and it now looks very 'do-able'. Waiting for delivery of my KB...watch this space!

Its been four days since the workshop and I think i've just about recovered.....just in time for my kettleball to arrive in the post. Definately would recommend this workshop to anyone- no matter your gender or current fitness level. Rannoch emphasises the importance of mobility and this makes a great change from concentrating on what someone can bench. I was contemplating joining another gym....again (which i wouldn't have time to go to any) but decided to give this a go first- so glad i did!

Over 200 miles, 4 hours travelling and blizzard conditions! And that was only to get to the Seminar, but it was so worth it. Rannoch was a very well informed, infectiously enthusiastic instructor. The 3 hours passed quickly - well all except for the last 8 minutes!! That said still can't wait for my KB to arrive.
Highly Recommended! Will definitely attend another seminar.

Taking training to the next level
Rated 10 out of 10
Rannoch delivered a very comprehensive course to our group. Begining with an understanding of his philosophy behind training, He then moved into an excellent joint moblisation warm up routine followed by a selection of bodyweight routines that test both your strength as well as balance and coordination. As the course is about all over body conditioning this was a great start to let you know if you had any tight spots or weak spots before you started working with the Kettlebells.
When we started working with the KB's I was really impressed how Rannoch broke down the movements into the component parts so we could really understand what was happening. His attention to detail and technique made such a big difference to learning the main moves quickly and effectively in a step by step way.
In no time at all we were swinging the bells as if we had been training for some time. Even with complex moves like the "Turkish get up" I felt confident that I had the technique nailed by the time we were finnished.
To round it all off Rannoch gave us a great (read tough) workout where we worked hard and fast at the basics.
All in all a great course that I would highly recommend to anyone in any sports discipline (or anyone) who would like to work on all over body conditioning with strength and coordination.

Delvered by a guy who one immediately identifies as being 'at one' with his own being. As far as I'm concerned, what Rannoch delivered was above and beyond the basics in mobility, strength and safe techniques. His holistic insight into personal health and conditioning was as much a part of the workshop as the kettlebell techniques. Priceless. "Instead of attempting to do everything, focus first on a few things and become absolutely excellent at them." Hard to put a number out of 10 since he's the only guy I've seen doing this. Cheers wee man can't thank you enough.

Rannochs approach to health and well being is straight forward simple and effective. He teaches with fluency and grace the techniques are broken down instructed then combined to enable even the most inexpierienced kettlebell users to leave his workshops with an understanding and self confident knowledge that they can carry on thier growth and training on their own.

The workshop was great - I'd already had a few one hour KB sessions with Rannoch but it was good to do the full workshop and go over everything, get my form right. The three hours covered everything from mobility to body weight exercises, and Rannoch's enthusiasm is catching.
Great fun - recommended!

Excellent.
Rannoch delivered the seminar with authority. His delivery was clear, and I felt I understood exactly what was required and how everything hangs together. The structure of the seminar was good, and gave enough time on each drill to ensure technique was nailed, rather than trying to cover too much and not remembering anything.
I think I'll actually take away more from the seminar about mobility & body-weight training - really useful advice. I've already incorporated these into my day. Looking forward to the next session.

March 2009 - Kettlebell Workshop Boroughmuir

I thoroughly enjoyed all three sections of the workshop The following aspects stood out for me.
The emphasis on refining one's practice rather than obsessing about the weights / reps. I think that's an idea which will carry over very neatly into other areas of life.
The focus on a few fundamental techniques that I could immediately take away and start working on. I've been to several which are really enjoyable at the time but take a more "shock and awe" approach and deluge you with a torrent of techniques which all start to blur into one by the time you reach the car park afterwards.
His open , energetic and direct teaching style that made me very comfortable from the outset. I had a certain amount of nervousness walk in but that very quickly dissipated and I walked out afterwards feeling fired up and eager to get started and that enthusiasm is actually growing as I start to practice and apply the lessons from the seminar.

Well worth it!
I was pleasantly suprised to find that Rannoch's workshop not only covered an hour of kettlebell exercises/techniques, but also focused on mobility and body weight drills. It had never occurred to me how important these two areas are in terms of health and overall fitness until Rannoch showed me the light. Not only did he explain various drills but he also explained the mechanics behind them and the benefits they bring.
Overall it was a much better experience over anything I've had from personal training sessions in the gym. Would definitely go again!!!

Rannoch's kb1 course is an absolute must for anyone taking on kettlebell training, He delivers clear and concise instruction on all the basic aspects of this unique fitness system. Its one thing to learn a little yourself from various sources, but nothing compares to live instruction from someone who's enthusiasm and passion spills out and positively infects everyone at the course. Looking forward to the kb2.

Excellent instruction covering mobility, bodyweight and kettlebell drills. I learned alot of new stuff to add to my arsenal and will incorporate it into my strongman training. Informative and broken down into easy step by step instructions. Training longetivity was emphasised with the mantra that training is practice rather than straining. This I understood only too well with my catalogue of injuries from training beyond the limit constantly.
Highly recommended for everyone from the sedentary to athletes of all sports.

ATTENDED THE MONTROSE SEMINAR. A FANTASTIC 3 HOURS OF VERY INFORMATIVE INSTRUCTION. RANNOCHS PASSION FOR KB'S IS QUITE INFECTIOUS & HIS HOLISTIC APPROACH TO HEALTH & WELL BEING IS CLEARLY THE CORE OF HIS TRAINING. ESPECIALLY ENJOYED THE MOBILITY & BODY WEIGHT ROUTINES. IM HOPING THAT BY INCORPOATING SOME OF RANNOCHS IDEAS MY TKD SPARRING WILL IMPROVE. THE 8 MINUTE KETTLEBELL WORKOUT AT THE END...WELL LETS JUST SAY IM STILL ACHING 3 DAYS LATER ! I has always wanted to try this system of training as I had heard of it before and saw the results. It is a fantastic system and hope to implement it into the fabric of the physical development of my students. I was personaly happy as I was able to work my legs without my back troubles being a limiting factor. Four days after the workshop my glutes were still having issues.
It was a great course and presented very well by Rannoch.

I had been using kettle bells as part of my personal training for a few months, or thought I was using them until the course with Rannoch. He opened pandoras box with only a few basic routines, all of which worked. Rannoch has an enthusiasm that spreads to all as he teaches the course. I look forward to working with him again in the near future.Sorry it's only a 9,just so it gives me something to look forward to next time!

The kettlebell workshop came just at the right time for myself as i have just started to train and improve my skills at Taekwon-do. I have been going to the gym for the last 2 months to improve my strenght and condition as part of my training. What I have discovered is that I could do that in a more efficient way using kettlebells which mix strengthening, cardio and mobility exercise in very short sets compare to usual weight training. I don't want to say to much as there are plenty of Kettlebells reviews around but i would just like to add that the workshop was brilliant even for someone with as little training as me, thanks to Rannoch straight forward and very valuable instruction and enthousiasm.

Having had a little experience of kettlebell work as an integrated discipline within my workout of the day I realised the potential of this tool for mobility, flexibility and power. This quest for further knowledge led me to the internet in search of training in Scotland. The search revealed Rannoch Donald as a fully qualified coach based in Scotland. The next step was to find an introductory course in Glasgow. So it was with some trepidation that I arrived at a gym to learn more from a dedicated and well informed coach. What an experience!I learned so much in a short time delivered with professionalism and dedication by Rannoch. My search has now begun to know more, learn more and apply this effective tool to my training. The day left me inspired and motivated and grateful for the chance to learn from one of the BEST!

This was my second Kettlebells course with Rannoch as the instructor, having previously attended a course in Arbroath. I was inspired by the last course, to introduce Kettlebells training to my TKD and KKB students, to use as an additional tool for their martial arts training.
Rannoch once again delivered a faultless course, and showed us even thought we may be senior grades in martial arts, there is still a lot we can learn about basic mobility. My body, like most of the other participants on the course, was protesting a few days later, which only goes to prove, that there are muscles in there that are used by Kettlebells and mobility training, that we dont use in our normal class workouts and training.
The course was excellent, and we look forward to having Rannoch back at Montrose in the near future. Haste ye back.

Attended K1 seminar a few months back. Rannoch's enthusiasm and promotion of such a 'simple' system allows you to stick with it and really see some progress. Can't recommend the K1 course highly enough, and will definately be back for more. You do get some weird looks working out in the park though!

As a "seen better days" and "padded" 38 year old I was both eager but more than apprehensive at taking on Rannoch's workshop but I needn't have worried. Rannoch was excellent at guiding and encouraging the complete starters like me while also keeping the more experienced attendees focused and tested.
While I'll freely admit to being quite jealous of his sickeningly high level of fitness Rannoch kept everything real and accessible and showed you why the programme works and how you can incorporate it into your life.
Seriously, if you want to get fit but also have a life do yourself a favour and come along to the next workshop. You won't regret it. Oh and the "9" rating is only to give Rannoch something to keep working for!

I had wanted to add kettlebells to my training for a while, but not without some instruction as I thought the potential for injury was too high. After 3 hours with Rannoch yesterday, I feel confident that I can work safely with every technique we were shown, from the swing through to the turkish get-up.
The workshop ran at a good pace, was highly informative and very enjoyable. Beforehand I was a bit wary about whether some old shoulder injuries would play up, however there wasn't an issue and today my shoulder integrity/ mobility feels better than it has for a long time, in fact my whole body seems to be in better alignment.
Rannoch's approach to health and fitness in general was refreshing and the workshop gave us an insight into his philosophy on this which went beyond kettlebells.
Having had a fairly high impact sports history through competitive judo, motocross & TKD, I see kettlebells as a very useful addition to my current tai chi & chi gong practices in bringing back full mobility & functioning, not to mention power from the ground up.

Rannoch provided an excellent day. Simple effective instruction delivered in a well structured manner. In our group we had a variety of different body types and abilities but that did not impact Rannochs ability to put the message over. The importance of correct posture and technique was well put over. A lot was packed into three hours, thanks for a superb day. A bells convert, see you at the next event.

Attended the K1 workshop yesterday, after having been practising KB's for two months. I bought Pavel's "Enter the Kettlebell" and have studied this quite deeply. Rannochs's workshop was fantastic it took all of Pavels concepts and showed you how and why to use them. Rannoch's knowledge of the Human Body was superb and the way he described and demonstrated the techniques was really spot on. I was skeptical on the mobility aspects of the workshop, but Rannoch presented these with a very easy manner and simplistic viewpoint, I will be sure to carry on using the exercises he showed us. It was a good relaxed atmosphere to work in and the pace was just right. I will definately be back for the next workshop.

I wasn't quite sure if I should book a Kettle bells workshop but since I was stuck with using kettle bells correctly (so that I won't hurt my back) I thought I could give it a try. At the same time I was also a bit worried to encounter a gym-muscle-no-pain-no-gain freak and I said to myself that I won't need to prove anything and that I would try not to overdo. Anyway, equipped with that in my mind I went there and it was all different: First, Rannoch had many things up his sleeve, he's also supporting the group after the workshop with some material, about 40 pages so far. He also stressed joint mobility as basic prerequisite for working on strength and was talking about breathing a lot. Second - Fitness: Rannoch insisted that we should treat ourselves not like being on a championship-boot-camp-only-one-will-survive-kind of thing but we should treat ourselves ... nicely. Like, doing KB for preparing us for daily life, for staying fit. That was good, thinking about fun rather than being too serious. And third - It goes without saying that the actual KB-part was good, I know now how to swing a KB, how to clean it without hurting myself. So, definitely, this course is worth it. I will do a follow up at a later point as well.

First ever kettlebell course (written 27/6/09)
Rated 10 out of 10
I've been using kettlebells for about five years and have recently (in the last six months) really immersed myself in KB training. As a result I had a voice in the back of my head nagging me increasingly loudly to "See an RKC" and "Make sure you're doing it right". Rannoch was the RKC I chose and a fantastic choice it was. Rannoch is not an insanely-shouty, blood-and-guts, always-go-heavier RKC. On the contrary, he is an immensely fit, movement-particular and practical RKC. His attention to posture, precision, breathing and mobility form the foundation of his teaching and I came away with a much greater understanding of the particulars of the sport.
To briefly describe the actual kettlebell component of my day: after teaching three basic lifts (swing, clean and TGU) to a room full of students of different abilities, at the end of the workshop (and in what was technically his own time) Rannoch was kind enough to critique my snatch technique and give me valuable pointers and encouragement. I came home and completed the VWC 15:15 (80 sets) the following day!
I drove for three and a quarter hours to get to the course, trained for three hours (and would happily have stayed for longer) and drove the same time home again - and I would do it every weekend.
An excellent instructor providing excellent instruction - I'll see you in a fortnight Rannoch!

HardStyle, but with a Holistic approach
Rated 10 out of 10
I've been training with Kettlebells for 9 months and have read/watched as much quality information as I could but I always had doubts about my form. Rannoch's K1 workshop was all I had hoped for and much more.
Having the exercises from the Program Minimum broken down in great detail in itself was fantastic, but this was bolstered with other "ways to have fun with one bell" such as one-legged deadlifts and an extensive range of bodyweight drills which were designed to support the TGU as well as general conditioning.
The workshop's emphasis on mobility and recovery was like a breath of fresh air compared with the standard gym approaches and Rannoch's enthusiasm for his craft is infectious. Value for money doesn't really cover it - skills for life for the price of a night out. Do this!

A smart way to start
Rated 9 out of 10
I have used different forms of training for different sports in the past but I've realised that time is at a premium these days and I need something quick, simple, focussed and effective to do on my own in the house if possible. Ideally it should be portable too. It has to feel like real training and not just some monotonous chore. I stumbled upon Rannochs course and he's given me exactly what I was looking for. I thought at first I was going along to learn simply how to start using kettle bells safely but I learned much more than that. Rannoch delivered the three hour course in Edinburgh in a very friendly, fun, focussed and informative way at a pace that seemed to suit all levels. Most importantly I left feeling I had done a real workout proving that it's worthwhile. The follow up emails provide very useful content to keep momentum up too. I'm sure I'll be back at another class once I've developed my own skills a bit further. In short if you're interested in KBs I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Rannoch.

Level 2 KB course
Rated 10 out of 10
I did Rannochs 'K2' course a couple of weeks ago. It was hard work, but fun and gave me a lot of additional techniques to build into my training. I like the fact that he teaches you so that you can then go and develop yourself - self reliant, you learn what you need to move yourself forward. Rannoch maintains a huge amount of enthusiasm for his training and teaching which can only come when you genuinely 100% believe and practice what you are teaching. His approach is he teachs what he practices himself. Technically Rannoch is excellent at teaching new movements and correcting any bad form you may have arrived with! His knowledge on the kinetic chain and and why kettlebells are so effective for 'core' and functional strength is very good and he focuses strongly on mobility as well so all in all a very comprehensive workshop by someone who knows what he's talking about, all too rare these days. Well worth it and I recommend Rannoch to anyone.

As a middle aged bloke of indifferent fitness I was slightly wary of attending what looked a bit like a hard core seminar, but two minutes after I arrived I knew I'd made a good decision! Rannoch is an enthusiast and an expert, and has a real gift for conveying information clearly and simply. There was a wide range of abilities in the class but Rannoch managed it in such a way that I think everyone felt relaxed and got from the session exactly what they were after. I certainly came away feeling revved up and keen to practice what I'd been taught. I think I've just had a glimpse of a whole new world!

Rannoch made it easy for me to go from nowhere, stiff and getting stiffer to realising that it doesn't have to be this way. I was knackered the next day and sore for several days and this was with me sitting out some sessions and only going at the pace I felt like! It was easy for me to go at my own pace as Rannoch made it clear to all that this was not a competition with anyone except yourself.
This was the first time I had lifted a kettlebell. I was there because my oldest son, Jason, told me I was in the last chance saloon and better do something fast having been recently diagnosed with arthritis of the lower spine. He discussed my situation with Rannoch and the pair of them made it easy for me to turn up and give it a shot.
The 3 hour session was a calibration on how much mobility and strength I had lost and a direct challenge to my brain! Rannoch was there to guide me. He also has two other instructors at the session giving a ratio of 1 instructor to 5 customers.
Now I can either roll over and give in to the "inevitable" of growing old painfully OR I can get serious about working on this better alternative. It is early days yet (6 days) but I have a ball, I have the instructions and I have the intention. Watch this space.
Thanks Jason and Rannoch.

My wife and I attended Rannoch's September 20th K1 course in Edinburgh.
We've been using kettlebells for 18 months self taught from books, and DVD's. However you can't beat hands on face-to-face instruction. It was good to have someone of Rannoch's obvious ability and enthusiasm cast an approving eye over our form and technique.
The joint mobility session was first class. We haven't missed a day since. This really does work. It has made a huge difference to us both. The bodyweight exercises were excellent and has given a new dimension to our training regime.
Rannoch connects with his audience. No boring braggadocio or mundane machismo from this guy. Just plain, easy to understand achievable instruction delivered in a clear, concise and effective way that works.
If you get the chance to train with Rannoch Donald just do it!!!
Thanks for everything Rannoch and hopefully we'll see you in November for K2.
