Rick Huse: Biography
Allow me to introduce myself. At age 61, I am what Pavel refers to as a "High Mileage Comrade". I have been a serious student of fitness (exercise physiology, bio-mechanics, functional anatomy & program design) for most of my adult life. As somewhat of a fitness Renaissance man, I have been involved in bodybuilding, powerlifting, cycling, martial arts, yoga, competitive rowing and of course, kettlebell lifting. The years of experience and education have come together as the foundation for HUSE FITNESS CONSULTING, LLC.
I currently hold the following certifications: CSCS, NSCA-CPT, RKC & CK-FMS and I also have a specialty in low back disorder in relationship to fitness, health and sports performance.
I first became aware of Pavel and Dragon Door through Pavel's book "Power to the People". It naturally followed that I would be part of the first wave of Kettlebell enthusiasts when they were introduced to the fitness world in 2000 and was first certified as a RKC in the Fall of 2002. So you can see, I've been involved with Kettlebells for a long time. Kettlebells have been an important tool in my fitness toolbox to assist my clients reach their fitness goals and beyond. If you are interested in exploring the possibilities, contact me by phone or e-mail.

I first bought a kettlebell a couple years ago but not having much luck on my own, put it aside under a pile of clothes. Recently, I decided to give it another try and sought help from an instructor. I was nervous having never had a personal trainer before or even really worked out. Rick was very easy to talk to and listened to what my goals and expectations were. Although my technique I'm sure was horrible, he worked with me to get it right. Going over moves, demonstrating and explaining what was going on until it 'clicked'. By the end of the session, I had gone from being afraid I was going to throw the KB through the wall to doing snatches, cleans, swings, and 'get ups' relatively competently. He gave suggestiong on routines both to start with and to work toward. All in all, I would highly reccommend Rick Huse to anyone looking for kettlebell training.

Rick rates in the upper 5% of all instructors I have had.

Over a lifetime of gym memberships, various specialty conditioning programs such as certified pilates instruction, a few yoga styles, aerobics and weightlifting coaching by a Mr America in the over 40 class and numerous dance instructors in my specialty field (I have logged a portfolio of over 100 to date)I must say that Rick Huse rates in the upper 5% of all instructors in his knowledge and concern that his students thoughly understand how good technique and body awareness can produce results and more importantly prevent injuries. His dedication to his students is inspiring. My exposure to him was brief but a lasting impression. I had discovered he had an RKC certification to teach Kettlebell technique and I came to him with bruised forearms in my attempts to follow the videos. He carefully watched my technique and when he observed I was having trouble grasping the subtle nuance of getting under the kettlebell before rising, he was able to use several analogies to explain good technique with very clear well modulated vocal instruction. His calmness is very helpful to ease your frustration and get you to think clearly which aids in reducing the pain you sometime suffer when trying to correct nascent bad habits. After this seminar with him, I was able to remember all his instructions to make all the small adjustments in my technique. Rick is well worth your time and I trust and highly recommend him for instruction and coaching.

Rick is the first fitness instructor I have worked with. Rick took his time and expalined in great detail how to train with the Kettlebells. I have been following his instructions on how to workout with the Kettlebells and have had fantastic results with no injuries. I would highly recomend anyone getting started with this type of training go spend some time with Rick in order get started right. I plan on continuing my training with Rick in order to expand my knowledge of how to train with the Kettlebell.

Rick is my first instructor, I bought my Kettlebells about a year and a half ago. The video and book to Enter The Kettlebell are excellent, but there is NO exception to being taught hands on by an RKC. I learned so much in the three hours I spent with Rick it was hard to believe, but he broke it all down into manageable chunks and I walked away with a lot more confidence and piece of mind not to mention the instruction stoked the fire to my growing passion for Kettlebells and fitness. I would highly recommend Rick Huse RKC to any one and everyone who might have interest in any thing Kettlebell, I plan on future meets with Rick as well to enhance and further my own knowledge. Thanks Rick! And as Pavel say's. Enjoy The Pain!

I started using kettlebells about two years ago. I purchased the Enter the Kettlebell book and DVD which were very helpful. However, after going through the Program Minimum and onto the Rite of Passage using progressively heavier kettlebells, I developed tendonitis in both elbows and pain in my shoulder/clavicle area to go along with low back issues that I have had all of my adult life and were often aggravated by my kettlebell training. After spending seven months going to physical therapy, ART, getting a cortisone shot and dropping the weight and volume of my training back to almost nothing, I still had pain. I was ready to give up kettlebells all together, but decided that I would try working with an RKC to see if improving my form would help. When searching for instructors I was very interested in working with a CK-FMS of which there were none in my area. I found that Rick was an RKC, CK-FMS and that he specialized in low back issues. I drove over 2 hours to meet with Rick and it was well worth it. Rick spent over three hours with me putting me through a functional movement screen, demonstrating joint mobility as a warm-up for kettlebell training, correcting my technique in various kettlebell lifts and showing me exercises to protect my lower back. Rick is extremely knowledgeable in multiple areas, very patient and funny. He found a severe range of motion issue in my one shoulder as well as the low back issue that I was aware of. We discussed what to do to go about correcting these issues. Rick showed me where my kettlebell technique was further injuring my elbows, shoulder and low back and made corrections to it. I would recommend Rick to anyone (even non-kettlebell enthusiasts) and I plan on going back to see him in the future.

Great instructor for beginners

I have had two kettlebell training sessions with Rick and am grateful to have started with him. I have not had any formal weight training instruction and no kettlebell instruction whatsoever. Rick has been very patient in showing me the basics and explaining techniques (sometimes several times) in ways that make sense to me. It is quite obvious that Rick has a great passion for kettlebell training, fitness in general, and teaching. He takes his studying and teaching seriously and works hard to find new ways to teach his students as much as they can safely handle. As a novice, I appreciate feeling comfortable to ask any question, and not having to worry about my safety while training, since Rick points out potential problems before they become injuries. I will definitely continue my training with Rick.
