David Whitley: Biography

Welcome to Iron Tamer Strength and Fitness

Old-School Training for the 21st Century

Proverbs 24:5 A wise man is strong, Yes a man of
knowledge increases strength;

Old-timers of the iron game knew how to maximize their bodies, squeezing out every possible ounce of functional strength. Looks, while a consideration, were secondary. Just look at men like Arthur Saxon and Eugen Sandow. These were men of exceptional strength as well as ideal proportion. They knew that without strength, muscle was just in the way.

Sadly, somewhere along the way this idea was lost. The "Jolly Game of Taming Iron" describe by Russian Olympic lifter Yuri Vlasov has given way to the chrome machines and color-coded Ken-and-Barbie dumbells of today.

Following the lead of Pavel Tsatsouline, Iron Tamer is about reclaiming our past. If you are looking for discussion about the latest super-supplement, elliptical machines or muscle isolation techniques, this is not the place for you. What you will find here is products and services for:

I am David Whitley, Senior RKC Instructor,CK-FMS and professional performing strongman.

I reside and train athletes and individuals just like YOU in Nashville, TN.

What is an RKC Senior Instructor?

From Dragon Door: The Senior level RKC instructor is by invitation only. The Senior RKC has displayed a combination of superior teaching skills, leadership and physical abilities with the kettlebell. The Senior RKCs are responsible for teaching and testing at Dragon Door and Pavels renowned Russian Kettlebell Challenge Instructor certification workshops.

What is CK-FMS?

It stands for Certified Kettlebell Functional Movement Specialist and it means that I am certified in Gray Cooks Functional Movement Screen (a ranking and grading system scientifically created to document movement patterns that are key to normal function) and the corrective Kettlebell exercises that relate to the FMS.

I conduct Kettlebell workshops across the country and train clients in the Nashville area. I am also available for internet and phone consultation and personalized program design.

I have worked to help hundreds of clients reach their fitness goals. These clients include:

Vanderbilt University Football and Baseball Teams The US Army The US Marines These are the exception however. Mostly I work with ordinary people who are sick of being overweight, out of shape and feeling like they are not experiencing life to the fullest. People I believelike you.

I am the author of two Kettlebell DVDs Power Circuit Workout, and Full Body Power.

I have been featured on More at Midday Channel 4, the Nashville NBC affiliate. I have been interviewed for the Wall street Journal, Nashville Rage and have written articles for several magazines.

Iron Tamer Workshop-Atlanta Rated 10 out of 10
I just completed David's Iron Tamer advanced KB workshop at Delaine Ross' Condition KB Gym in Atlanta. It was the absolute best $200 I ever spent on fitness education! David's workshop was thorough and challenging. I was by far the least experienced in the group with KBs, yet David was able to make quick adjustments with me and anyone else in the group to keep things not only safe but effective. He is extremely knowledgable about not only kettlebell training, but human biomechanics. He was able to perform specific mobility drills with a few students struggling with certain moves that enabled them to complete the drills within just a few minutes of his adjustments. Everyone in the group was very positive about the experience. I've been in the fitness business for over a decade--David is one of the best I've ever worked with and that is no BS! If you get the opportunity to work personally with David "The Iron Tamer" Whitley--DO IT! You won't be disappointed!

Knowledge Rated 10 out of 10
The easiest way to put it is that David Whitley is a wealth of knowledge. I was able to get a sample of the Whitley experience recently at the April '08 RKC in Minneapolis. He gleamed professionalism and was able to take is expansive knowledge and make it easily understandable for an individual at any level. Thank you Dave!!

5/2/08 Full Body Power Workshop Rated 10 out of 10
David Whitley's Full Body Power workshop was an eye- and mind-opener. He taught us form, technique, and variations on multiple classics, like the clean and press, the get-up, and the (now even more dreaded) burpee. But he also taught us the process by which he derived these innovative exercises, and showed us how to innovate our own. It takes a true master to teach others how to create; in this regard, David demonstrated his mastery of the medium. I look forward to training with him again.

Full Body Power - ATL Workshop Rated 10 out of 10
I participated in David's Full Body Power kettlebell workshop earlier this month, and the techniques and exercises he taught in those six hours will be part of my training for years to come. David's no-nonsense approach to strength training and conditioning is perfect for everyone who wants real results - from the novice to the accomplished athlete. Train with the Iron Tamer and you'll get innovative techniques, uncomprising attention to form and safety, plenty of sweat and the results to prove it - all from an instructor who doesn't take himself too seriously. Not interested in getting stronger? David can still astound you with his encyclopedic knowledge of everyone's favorite food group, the tater tot.

Ideal instructor for opening new ideas in Kettlebell training Rated 10 out of 10
David Whitley is an instructor who implements combination KB training like no other. I am in the fitness industry and his advanced workshop showed me new ways and methods of training our clients through combining KB movements in a safe, efficient manner. All was available to us at an affordable price. Great job David and I look forward to working with you again in the near future.

6 plus hours of swinging kettlebells never went by so quickly! Rated 10 out of 10
I got a huge amount of information from David's Full Body Power Workshop. The level of detail of the technique was invaluable. I'm looking forward to learning from him again!

Would learn from again. A++++++ Rated 10 out of 10
I attended one of David's workshops in Atlanta. In addition to learning numerous new things I never thought I could do with a kettlebell or two, I was most impressed by how quickly he could diagnose and correct the deficiencies in my kettlebell techniques. With his advice, I certainly will pass the Secret Service Snatch Test months faster than had I continued at my own inferior training pace. Also, he's a nice guy!

RKC Cert Apr. 2008 Rated 10 out of 10
David Whitley played a huge factor in my RKC experience. Both his teaching style as well as his off the clock attitude were paramount in helping me decide what direction to focus my attentions once I got back home. Although I was not in David Whitley's group I still managed to get some non-lecture notes from him in my notebook, now that's good instruction to me.

Ready for the best? Rated 10 out of 10
David Whitley is an incredible RKC! He expects perfection, but his extensive knowledge and precise instruction will get you there. If that doesn't work, his "gentle" touch will surely help you find it. After working with Dave, I found that my technique improved dramatically. His guidance helped me redefine my strength goals and has ignited a desire for excellence that I haven't felt in years. Do yourself a favor and train with him!

David Rocks! Rated 10 out of 10
I have been an "exerciser" since high school; but never noticed strong results. I found David's boot camp on his website and was intrigued. After the first class, I was hooked. David does a great job of making sure you know what you're doing (Rule #1-Don't Be Stupid!)while also pushing you to go the extra length. I am in my 4th month of classes and couldn't be happier. The results are great, but you have to work for it. I never thought I would be so excited to work out at 6 am, but due to these classes I am! Thanks David-you rule!

True Master Rated 10 out of 10
You will experience three great qualities when you train with Mr. Whitley. First, he is generous. Like all true masters, he gives and advises freely of himself. Second, he is honest. There is no BS factor. If it isn't right it isn't right,Period! Third and most importantly, is his concern for your safety and wellbeing. You know that no matter how hard he is pushing your limits, you are not going it alone. Oh yeah, he is also really freaking strong!

One of the best Rated 10 out of 10
I have corresponded with David for the past year or so and recently was invited to attend one of his Kettlebell workshops in Nashville. Before attending I was barely able to snatch the 32kg kettlebell for a few reps, by the end of the workshop I was snatching it for sets of 10 with ease. From the get go David was able to teach me more than any book, dvd, or website has ever done on kettlebell training. Without a doubt one of the best instructors out there.

An awesome instructor Rated 10 out of 10
At the RKC in Denmark in 2007 I was fortunate enough to work with Dave - and what an awesome experience! Dave is really great at teaching the fine art of kettlebell lifting, and he has the strength to show for it, too. All in all, he is a very professional instructor, whos able to teach you any kb-drill, that you want to learn. I can only give him my highest recommendations!

Fastest Rising RKC Star! Rated 10 out of 10
From the first time that I met David I was impressed with not only his strength and skill with kettlebells but his knowledge on so much else. In the years that have since passed he has only gotten better. From kettlebells to bodyweight exercises and of course stupid human tricks if you've got the chance, do yourself a favor and train under the Iron Tamer!

I feel (ouch) GREAT!! Rated 10 out of 10
There are a lot of amazing things about David; his strength, his skill, etc. What amazes me about him is that he has been able to make me see something I've never been, fit and healthy. His boot camp is a godsend and I look forward to it 3x/week. My endurance, strength, energy and stamina have all increased tremendously. I feel better than I have in years and have David Whitley to thank.

"Fit" People Can Be Challenged Too! Rated 10 out of 10
With my wedding coming up in the summer of 2008, I knew I wanted to work out a little bit harder in order to see great results for my special day! So when I met David at a local bridal show and he told me about kettlebells and his boot camp, I thought I would give it a try.

I have always considered myself a very athletic person and active throughout my life. I have ran marathons and half marathons and thought I was in really good shape. I started boot camp shortly after I ran a marathon in January, which I thought I was in fabulous shape. Well I was in for a surprise that this KettleBell work out managed to kick my butt! The past four months have been such a great experience. I have managed to tone up in areas that I thought weren't possible to tone and have defined the muscle in my body. David's training and class has challenged me and my fitness abilities in a new way, something I really needed to see some improvements and changes in my body. You forget that by not changing up your work out routines, your body will plateau. David has introduced me to a new way to achieve both strength and cardio in just 45 minutes, 3 days a week. Besides David being such a great instructor, the classes are a lot of fun and my class mates are so encouraging as well! We all support one another and that adds to the success. Thanks David! Looking forward to looking good on my Wedding Day!

Great Instructor! Rated 10 out of 10
I've been into strength training for 15 years and I've never hired a trainer until now and it's well worth it. I've got Pavel's books, but it was great to get some one on one instruction from David. I've never been able to get the form down on pistols, but David had me doing full pistols before I left with additional weight. AMAZING! David's very strong and very humble. I'll definitely be going back!

I look forward to getting up at 4:45! Rated 10 out of 10
I have spent the last 3 months working with Dave and have lost 30 lbs. I am getting married this summer and wanted to lose weight and get in shape for the big day. I heard about Dave and his Bootcamp and thought I would give it a try. Anyone that offers a money back guarantee is either stupid or knows that what they do works...lets just say that in Dave's case he knows that all he has to do is get you to one of his sessions and if you are serious then you will want to keep coming back.
I had never even heard of a kettlebell, but using them with proper technique which of course I learned from Dave's teaching has erased my back and shoulder pain as well as made a huge difference in my body all together. Like I said I have lost 30 lbs. in under 3 months...give him a chance and he will not dissappoint you!

Great Workshop, Great Instructor Rated 10 out of 10
I wanted to attend Coach Whitley's workshop because I didn't feel as though I had a firm enough grasp of the details regarding kettlebell training that would maximize my workouts and keep me safe. Having seen videos of Coach Whitley I was already exited to train before I arrived in Nashville from Atlanta. After the workshop, however, I was even more excited.....excited to put into practice what I had learned! The way he presented the information was clear, concise, detailed, and entertaining all together. I feel as though he also did a great job addressing my individual needs while at the same time staying focused on the needs of the group as a whole. I left the workshop with a much better understanding of kettlebell safety, proper technique and structure, and the utilization of condensed breathing and tension. By the end of the workshop, Coach Whitley's instruction and corrections allowed me to clean and press a 40kg kettlebell! I can't recommend him enough! The training I received made my drive to Nashville and back to Atlanta well worth it.

First time Kettlebell user Rated 10 out of 10
Before David's workshop, I had never touched a kettlebell. The training was excellent and safety was foremost. David has a way of explaining and showing the proper use and technique of the kettlebell that makes it easy to learn.
Jerry Crocker - Tupelo, MS

Worth the Drive Rated 10 out of 10
David has the ability to break down a complex move and present it in a simple easy to understand way.Think about trying to teach 15 people the Turkish get up. Strong to weak, woman and men and then in fifteen minutes they are all doing it properly and the ones that "knew" how to do it are doing it better and with more weight than ever.Clearly he is a fine instuctor. In one four hour seminar I have gotten stronger and safer with all my kettlebell lifts.
Thomas Newcomb D.C. - Morristown,TN.

#1 RKC for a reason! Rated 10 out of 10
I went to David's workshop b/c I want to become RKC certified in the next year. The only source of info on KB's where I live is books or dvd's. Even if you think you are doing it right on your own, do yourself the justice of attending one of David's workshops. He corrected several flaws in my technique. I went from snatching a 16kg to 24kg comfortably by the end of the workshop. I am confident I can now train safely and pass the RKC with some hard work and dedication. It was well worth the 2 hour drive in the pouring rain to train with Senior RKC Whitley.

Get Strong Not Hurt Rated 10 out of 10
I was referred to David by my chiropractor. I wanted to get strong and all I ever got was injured. Not any more. David's number one rule is Don't be Stupid. I have been in his bootcamp now for going on two years and had no sidelining injuries. He is a stickler for the correct techniques, so I feel comfortable pushing myself. He is extremely enthusiastic and encouraging to his students, as long as you are giving it your best effort. I have never been what I would call an athlete and this is the first time in my life I have come to enjoy working out and actually look forward to it, even at 6 a.m. His vast knowledge of all aspects of physical fitness contribute to the value I get from his class. I cannot reccommend it enough.

Technical Teacher Rated 10 out of 10
David Whitley is a great teacher and comunicator. I have been training with my kettlebells for sometime, and thought I was pretty good at using them. I was wrong. He informed me that what I was doing was not wrong, but needed some minor adjustments. After listening to his advice my swings are more powerfull. My snatch is a lot smoother. MY TGU is a precise movement not several movements. David is very personable and an all around good guy. I look forward to working with him in the future.
Matt Holder - Nashville, TN

A true iron tamer! Rated 10 out of 10
There are few men out there who are well-deserved of being called "iron tamers". David is a prime example. Between closing the Captains of Crush No. 3 gripper, tossing the Beast around like a toy, performing the DuCane press, pinky, Sots, and split pressing 32kg for reps, being the first American to earn a Candidate for Master of Sports in Girevoy Sport, scoring a 260 on the Secret Service Snatch Test, 156 on the Ultimate Snatch Test, and a 102 in the Ultimate Jerk Test, completing the 1000 rep 16kg snatch and 40kg swing challenges, or simply performing workouts that no one can hope to do with half the weight for half the reps (what a list!), I can think of no better title than Irontamer. Only a few men in the world can boast even one of his accomplishments, let alone all of them. When this man speaks, you'd better believe I listen! One would have to be an idiot not to!
Jacob Eggleton - Ashville, AL USA

My Favorite Trainer Rated 10 out of 10
I've been training with Dave for a couple months now and I can definitely say that it is by far my most positive training experience. His class is hard work, but he keeps it really fun at the same time. And his class has yielded far more results than my typical gym experience - I lost three inches from my waist just during the few weeks of working with him. I recommend his class to everyone all my friends looking to lose weight or get more fit.
Melissa Taylor - Nashville, TN

Practice Being Scared!!! Rated 10 out of 10
Practice being scared was the first thing Dave told me when I asked about his bootcamp. I had participated in bootcamps before so I didn't really pay much attention to him. But after my first workout, I put 100% of my faith in him. I've only been a part of his bootcamps for three weeks now, but I'm already addicted. Even though I leave exhausted every time we meet, I can't help anxiously awaiting the next class. I wish we could meet everyday!
Thanks Dave.

This is the Real Deal! Rated 9 out of 10
I've been Kettlebell training with David Whitley sporadically for well over a year now, and I have recently committed myself to a full series. The effectiveness of this exercise regiment is truly unmatched, the experience will prove itself in the first class! I say this because nothing I've done before gives me the complete full body workout that this training offers. In the way of cardio, core strength, as well as physical and mental endurance. In one hour time I receive a workout that I really feel... For days! I am a professional in the heath care field, and I stand 100% behind David, as a professional himself, his method, and his approach to this concept... You may have noticed that I have rated David a 9, when everyone else has given him a 10. Although this really is just for a laugh, the reason for this score is because he can be a little mean, and blut sometimes. I LOVE IT! I just feel bad for the lazy and soft people in class, just don't waste his time and the others, and he won't waste yours. Hey, he'll do whatever it takes, and that's what you want, believe me!

Still going pretty strong Rated 10 out of 10
David is a great KB instructor and a really nice person to work with. I've been working out with KB's for about five years and I've known David and worked with him for three plus years. As a direct result of his efforts my technique is MUCH better, I'm doing heavier lifts and a messed up shoulder (my doings not his) is back to where it should be.

David has also done some family workshops for us that were outstanding. A little group competition is good. My wife, two daughers, one son-in-law and one to be son-in-law are doing things with KB's they never imagined they were capable of doing. I can't say enough good things about his ability to make things simple and straight forward while also assuring that your technique is correct. He will also push you to your limits. That's also good!

For me personally, at age 68, I've managed a pull-up with a 100 pounds of KB's strapped to my waist and a few clean and presses with the 70. I'm really pleased about that.

Thanks David!

Dave Whitley is an outstanding instructor and a wealth of knowledge. He knows about heavy lifts and he knows how to communicate it.

I've spent numerous training-hours with Dave and he never fails to find subtle technique changes that produce personal records.

Train with Dave; he'll make you strong!

Iron Balls Rated 10 out of 10
David Whitley has been teaching kettle bell classes at our gym for several weeks. I have only seen a little bit of what he does in his classes but had never participated. My interests had been peeked after seeing David's video clip on Utube. Last Thursday I was feeling less than motivated to begin my own work out so I invited myself to join David in his. Great work out! David is a very good teacher. He broke down the mechanics of each movement into small steps so that it was very easy to learn. I told my wife about our workout. She said "He beat you up with those big Iron Balls"? Thats right honey. - Great workout David. Thanks!

Great Trainer; Unbelievable results! Rated 10 out of 10
I had the opportunity to take one of David Whitley's 2 day seminars in Nashville and it was by far the most intense, informative and fun seminar I've ever attended. David's ability to teach every aspect of kettlebells to all levels of lifters is what sets him apart. He can take something (Turkish Get-Up)that looks unobtainable and break it down into parts that will have you not only being successful in the lift, but using a weight you never even thought you'd be able to use, which catapults your workouts through the roof. Everyone in Nashville should be going to David's workouts.

Well worth getting up at 5 a.m.! Rated 10 out of 10
I began training with David in July 2007. I was relatively active, but my body hadn't been challenged in this way in years. The first few days were tough, but I stuck with it and I was amazed at how fast my body changed, and the stamina that I was able to build in only a short amount of time. I feel better than I have felt in years. Now I can really tell when I have missed a few days.
David is an outstaning instructor. He is able to give individual attention while offering the support of a group environment. David instills discipline, while also keeping classes fun and entertaining. At only 45 minutes, David's classes beautifully combine effectiveness and effeciency. I would highly recommend David's classes to anyone who is serious about getting in shape and is ready to work hard and see amazing changes in their body!

I have known David for around 22 years now, and he has always been an intense individual. His KB training is no exception. He not only strives for physical excellence, but complete knowledge. Training with David will give you insight into the how's & why's as well as one of the best workouts you'll ever have.

He'll hurt you in a good way Rated 10 out of 10
I know it seems a little far-fetched that ALL of David's students rate him as a 10, but there's a reason that's the case. I'm pretty athletic and have always been pretty strong, but the training I received from David took my fitness to a different level.
David's training is hands down the best I've had for increasing functional strength and endurance. He's great to work with and presents a great challenge. David, Thanks for my favorite workout ever!

He Kicked My Butt! Rated 10 out of 10

Top Notch Instructor--Professional and will meet your goals Rated 10 out of 10
I have known David for four years either through “hands on” instruction or through his internet/phone consultation. Through either method, his expertise, professionalism and knowledge of kettlebell training, nutrition and the human body is top notch. If you are looking for someone who cares about his product and the services he provides, David Whitley is your man. His personal experiences, integrity, and loyalty compliment the training package he provides. In my most recent experience, he developed a training program, designed for me, which far exceeded my goals and made me better. He does not cut corners and reiterates the importance of mind over matter. I would recommend David to any of my friends looking to improve their training or their life. Communication with him was simple—I call him, or email him, he responded within hours of my question. If I did not understand, an exercise, his oral and communication ability of instruction was easily understood, and I was able to accomplish the exercise in question. His level headed, no-nonsense approach to training is phenomenal, and I believe him to be a solid, future leader of functional training. Thanks David!

"Don't Be Stupid" Rated 10 out of 10
If you are serious about getting fit and getting stronger, dedicate 3 days a week of your life to the kettlebell workout. Dave will teach you the basic and proper moves to using the kettlebell. Unlike classes at a gym, the classes are small enough to get one on one attention and learn proper technique. I find great benefit in this type of atmosphere, there is nothing worse than learning a new exercise and find out down the road you were doing it totally wrong. I have been taking Dave's class for 3 months now. My clothes are fitting better, my muscles are building, and I am getting stronger. I can't wait to reach my goal.

A nice butt is just a side effect Rated 10 out of 10
Since training with Dave for the past 6 months, I have nearly eliminated the chronic back pain caused by improper lifting in the past, and with the help of dietary changes, I've lost 25 lbs and feel better than I have since I was 18. I've gone from using the wee-bitty wieght for everything to being able to swing a 32. Dave's sunrise workouts have been the tool to lift me out of the depressive cycle of ever decreasing health, self esteem and motivation. He stresses the importance of functional strength rather than purely aesthetic gains, which is much more encouraging than other 'fitness' programs because working to feel better and gain strength is more rewarding, authentic and less superficial than just caring about looks. Through the help of his knowledge and experience, I finally feel empowered to take ownership over my physical health and well being. Dave is amazing at giving everyone in class personal attention and answering everyone's question. He paces his workouts so that we all work together, which creates a comfortable and supportive team atmosphere. These kettlebell workouts have been an integral aspect of a huge positive change in my life, and I could never overestimate the value of having a good coach like David invested in your health. Thanks Dave.

Huge difference in 4 weeks Rated 10 out of 10
I had no idea what to expect when I started bootcamp. The first day, I was out of breath, out of shape and could barely finish. By the end of week four, I noticed a huge difference in my overall stamina throughout class and energy throughout the day. I even began to see that muscle line we all want in our upper legs. I have seen more changes with David's Class in just a few weeks than I did with a whole year on the treadmill!

David has Sparked an Inferno of KB Training !!! Rated 10 out of 10
David's expertise and methodology has added a great deal of excitement to my training program's, while contributing to my athlete's performance. I am a true believer in David and his coaching phiolosphy. David has truely influenced me and my staff. Not only in our own training but with our athlete's. Because of David, kettlebells will always be a part of my programs as well as my athlete's.

David is by far a "Great Instructor" and a true IRON TAMER! David has a great patience while demanding effort and detail! There is no one else; I would utilize with my athlete's. David has worked with me, my staff and 120 of my athlete's.

David demonstrates a true passion for teaching and gets my highest recommendation!! You will not be disappointeed!!

I have been practicing martial arts for over thirty five years. I am a sixth degree black-belt in Wado-Ryu Karate and a senior instructor for the Rickson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Association. About a year ago I had the good fortune to locate David Whitley and have him in for a seminar at my school. The workout and techniques he taught us seemed to be tailor made for my students and my needs. I was immediately hooked as were all the students who attended the class. I was so impressed that I added kettlebell training to our regular curriculum. David is extremely talented both as a teacher and as an athlete. I would recommend him to anyone.

Dave Delivered Rated 10 out of 10
I thoroughly enjoyed David's kettlebell workshop. Being a total novice, I had hoped for information on why kettlebell training is beneficial, where it originated from, and then obviously learn some of the kettlebell techniques. You delivered on all of my wishes. You explained the benefits of KB training, gave historical facts, and lastly broke down KB movements. Your teaching is concise, straight-forward, humorous, and simple.
Quite honestly, the 3 hours seemed to fly-by and looking back in retrospect, there is not a single thing I would change.

Every Monday for a long, long time I intended to start on a diet and working out. I'd gained 30 pounds and all I did was complain and say to myself, "I'll start next week". Next week never came until I met David. I had never heard of a kettlebell (I told my husband I was going to start kettleball training). Not only is this a first for me to workout at 6:00 in the morning, but it's a first for me to not want to miss working out! David is truly one of a kind. I will never go back to a "gym" workout. His workouts kill me and I love it! It's obvious he's extremely knowledgeable and passionate about his profession. He encourages you, he's patient (poor guy, he has to be with me), his great personality makes his workout worth what he's putting you through, which is the toughest 45 minutes I've ever experienced. He's given me a whole new outlook on exercising and eating healthy, not dieting. Yesterday, just after 3 weeks with David, I took all the largest of my three different sizes of pants to alterations for her to take in the waist and some she even had to take in the rear!! As a woman knowing all about vanity, you love telling when you get to take in your rear!! I'm staying with David as long as he'll have me, I'm looking forward to getting into the smallest sizes I have in my closet!

Cheerleaders and Martial Artists Benefit Rated 10 out of 10
David's physical abilities speak for themselves. He has set and reached goals for himself most people will never consider and deserves the respect that many professional athletes throw away. While these are fine attributes and might attract attention they are not what sets him apart and above others. David's knowledge of playing with iron is far ranging but his ability to effectively communicate that information to others is amazing.

I first met David for a private KB lesson in a church parking in Hermitage, TN three of four years ago. I had never seen a KB except on DragonDoor.com much less touched one. In fact, I hadn't touched my toes without sitting or squatting for years prior to this meeting. As a teen active in football, then TKD and cheerleading I had a hard time with tight hamstrings, etc. This is relevant to that first meeting. When I limped, I mean walked, away from that class I could handle my new one pood bell and my toes. I have used the technique of contraction and relaxation for other stretches and have been able to help friends in the same way. That is because I understood what I doing not just how to do it. It is unfortunate that so many teachers and professors do not share David's ability to teach in their own specialty.

Just as David pushed me beyond the limits my mind had placed on my body I've been fortunate to see others experience the same thing in a group setting. I doubt he can read the mind or souls of men (and women) but apparently his training as a LMT gives him incredible insight as to what an individual is physically capable of doing. It is the total package that he brings to the table that keeps folks coming back to him for training.
Having stepped away from the bell for way too long because of chronic injury I am looking forward to finding the limits of my ability and then going back to Nashville for further training and encouragement.

This may be long-winded (okay, it is) but I hope to convince anybody even leaning on the fence to climb over or crawl under and contact David for a session or a Boot Camp. You will not walk away disappointed but rather be walking toward a better, stronger future.

A workout you want to commit to Rated 10 out of 10
I have been active all of my life from sports throughout school to going to the gym regularly. In the last six months, I became disheartened with the gym and got to the point where I pretty much dreaded going. I wasn't seeing results, and I didn't want to spend 1-2 more hours inside, which was what it took to do both weights and cardio. Does this sound familiar?

Well, David's kettlebell workouts combine both cardio and strength training in no more than an hour with a group of fun and motivated individuals. He caters to everyone no matter their fitness level and is extremely tough while being both respectful and motivating at the same time. I feel stronger and have more energy than I ever have, and I am seeing definition in places that I had long given up on. I am so grateful to have discovered David; he is the real deal, and I actually look forward to working out now!

Be a better you Rated 10 out of 10
In 9 months of training with David Whitely Sr.RKC I have rolled back the clock and feel better than I have since I was 20. I have returned to competitive soccer for the first time in 7 years. I'm running down 19 year olds, scoring goals, and feeling terrific. I knew kettlebells were the fitness tool to improve my strength, explosiveness, stablility and balance without sacrificing mobility. What I didn't know was what a difference expert instruction would make. Under Davids watch I have gone from using a 16kg bell for most excersizes to a 32. My wife rips 10-15 strict pushups with ease and my sister at 125 pounds swings a 32 for multiple sets! I can't thank David enough for the dramatic improvements in our understanding, attitude, and enthusiasm for physical fitness. See you at the next RKC cert!

20 MINUTES OF PAIN! Rated 10 out of 10
David has recently started conducting Kettlebell classes at my personal training studio, Next Level Fitness. I have seen a large variety of athletes come to the class so my curiosity pushed me to see what it was all about. All I have to say is that it only took 20 minutes for him to prove the efficiency of what kettlebells have to offer! After detailed instruction on my form we went into a short but brutal 20 minutes of snatch intervals. With all my efforts I made it to our initial goal of 40, and then he motivated me even farther. At this point it is all I can do to type this breif but very well deserved review. If you want to challenge your body to see what it can really do, then David is the man to take you there.

I have been using kettlebells under David's instruction for over three years. Every time we train together I learn some new nuance to a technique I have been doing for years. No matter what question I have about kettlebells, David is quick to provide a complete answer.

I have also sent many of my patients to him for kettlebell instruction as a part of their plan of care, all of them have recieved benefit from his teaching. David has my highest reccomendation.

3 Hours One-Way Rated 10 out of 10
As the world "progresses," coming across people who not only have passion about what they do but also integrity as business people is more and more difficult. I first met David 6 months ago after driving 3 hours one way to train with him. I arrived with loads of hope--and a multitude of doubts and reservations. Having only talked with and watched trainers in the past, I was uncertain of the role he would take and actually felt it would simply be a matter of "Here's your workout. Do with it as you will." This was only part of what I needed in a trainer, though, and as we talked to become acquainted, I asked how I might convince him to play a more active part in motivating me toward my goals. At this, David gave me the strangest look, and he asked me, "Are you asking me how you can motivate me to do my job?" He then explained to me that his job was not only to show me what to do but to provide me with the motivation to stick to it. Any doubts I once had have long been erased, and I continue to make that long drive once a month to work with him and will do so for months to come. I do this because David has shown me how to begin to believe in myself. What greater gift can one give?

I consider myself someone who is always experimenting and striving for self improvement. To that end, I have continually come back to David for instruction over the years that I have known him and have never been disappointed. David has a gift for moving people toward their full potential regardless of where they are in the scale of their fitness goals when they start. He has helped me tap into a vast reservoir of vitality and strength, all while improving my flexibility. I have experienced some of my best improvement working with David. I will never - let me repeat - NEVER go back to a static workout in the gym ever again.

Looking great for my wedding Rated 10 out of 10

I was used to being in good shape because I am a former college athlete, so when I got really sick in November of ‘06 and could not work out for six months it was devastating to me, especially since I was getting married in October of 2007. I gained 22 pounds and lost a lot of muscle. When I recovered from being sick I went back to the gym, but I was not getting the results I needed.

I decided to try kettle bell training with David. I thought I was just going to do this work out a few times a week, and that was it. However, David makes it a whole program from your goals, to your dietary needs, to work out regime that is why this program really works. This is by far the best and most effective work out I have ever done. I lost all the weight I had gained and then some, and I looked GREAT on my wedding day!

KettleBell boot camp was never somthing i ever would have thought of doing in my life.I came across David Whitley and his class and thought i would give it a try (not really expecting to stick to it). David has been a wonderul instructor, one who encourages you to give it a fair try and prove yourself. From there he encourages you to take it to the next altitude of fitness. His classes focuses on all body areas. David is a very patient trainer and takes time to explain routinsand ensure it is done properly. Awesome persona with a very positive attitude. I would highly recommend him and his classes to anyone.

An old body CAN be retrained! Rated 10 out of 10
Boot camp is the hardest thing I've ever done physically in my life. To sustain that level of activity for an hour is quite a challenge for me, as you know.

FYI, I have a stacked washer and dryer (front-loaded). While emptying the washer today I realized I had no strain in my back. Then I realized I had bent from the HIP not the WAIST.

So, an old body CAN be retrained!

I have been a part of Dave's class for a while now and there is no going back. It is the most complete, most intense and most challenging workout I have ever done and it has added power to my martial arts practice as well.

Still wondering how I got here... Rated 10 out of 10
I have to admit that I signed up for David's class without understanding what I was getting into...truly! My friend wanted to take the class so I signed up without really reading about what David does and had to offer. After my first workshop I couldn't walk, sit or climb stairs for days as I was incredibly sore. I was surprised how out of shape I was b/c I thought I was at least maintaining but. I haven't seen the results that I expected, at least not yet, but am certainly seeing positive results in other areas. David said to expect to see results in the first place that I want them last. I have only been doing this for about a month and a half am impressed with the other results so far. I am stronger in other areas and have been able to increase my weight 1 bell up. I look forward to this class and am motivated to give it 100%. I appreciate David's attention to detail, pushing us to not give up and acknowledgement that we are on track. Thanks David!

I have had personal training and group training with Dave. Not only is he a great kettlebell instructor, he has great patience in making sure you get the technique right. He's a motivator, listens to what you're saying so that he can help you overcome any difficulties you're having, and inspires you to do your best. He helps you to see that what may be difficult now will all work to your benefit in the future. Most of all, he helps you to beleive in yourself! If you get the chance to train with Dave, do it!

Nice guy with a hard core attitude. Rated 10 out of 10
I meet David a couple of years ago at a weekend trainig camp he was having in Nashville with a fellow RKC. David quickly took the class and lead us through basic drills and hitting all the finer nuances with vengeance. He made sure we all got the finer points ground home before we left that camp.

His knowledge and subtle but hard mannerism made the experience one to remember. I learned so much from that outing that I am still trying to process it all. We went over it all and didn't miss a thing. Everyone was to be made sure they understand the basics and all their finer points.

I hear David has been promoted to Senior RKC. I think there is no finer man for that position. He will bring plenty to the table. I would recommend David to anyone and would recommend that everyone should spend a litle time with him.

Thanks David and congrats on the promotion.

I have done things that I never thought my body could do. Rated 10 out of 10
OK, when my chiropractor, Chad McClellan, kept telling me that I should do this kettlebell workout, I thought, is he nuts?! But then again, Chad has never steered me in the wrong direction about anything else. Then I met David Whitley one day at Chad's office and I followed him outside to see a demo of how it works. He invited me to go to the class he was having that afternoon and I did. I was amazed at how many girls were there and after seeing the workout, I knew I had to give it a shot. We have just completed 2 weeks of the Power Circuit Bootcamp and I feel great! I find myself looking forward to each class and finding ways to push myself more and more each time. David is a great motivator and his passion for this is very apparent. This is the best total body workout I have ever heard of, and best of all, it works because you get out of it what you put in.

I knew next to nothing about kettlebells before starting, but the first day with David's coaching he had me pounding through the fundamentals. We finished with what I otherwise would have thought were advanced moves. I was amazed at how versatile a workout I could get from one tool. I wanted a workout to focus on endurance and strength. This is it.

Kettlebell class is great Rated 10 out of 10
The Russian kettlebells workout has been of great benefit to me. I no longer wake up with backaches because now my back and neck are stronger and more flexible. When I started the kettlebell class, I could barely push myself off the ground, but now, I can swing 24 kg, press 12 kg, and deadlift a 32 kg kettlebells. It has astounded me as well as my trainer, David Whitley, that I have made such rapid progress. No other workout has worked as well for me as kettlebells. My posture is much straighter, I have lost body fat, my abs are tighter, my arms are more defined, and I feel much stronger and have more energy. David has taught me how to use the exercises to overcome my scoliosis and retrain my legs to proper posture. David is an excellent trainer and has been a wonderful teacher for me. He is patient and always motivates me to push myself to get the very most from each exercise.

Life Changing Experience Rated 10 out of 10
Well I have to admit. After the first day, I was thinking “I am really glad there is that “money back guarantee thing” and “have I lost my damn mind”. However, I did continue on because anything that took that much out of me and worked that many muscles in 45 minutes had to be good for me somehow.

Then the transformation, strength, and flexibility came so quickly that my doubt was gone and all I was left with was a confidence in my self that was growing day by day.

As far as David Whitley’s competence as a trainer, I don’t think I could ever say enough good things! He is so knowledgeable about so many aspects of the field. Not only does he know so much about the Kettlebell training, strength development and physical side of it, but his is also extremely cognizant of the emotional struggle it takes for most people to begin a regimine like this and is able to motivate you to push past those times when you are not quite sure you can do it.

Basically what I am saying, is that David believes in you sometimes when you are not sure you can believe in yourself and as a result I can not thank him enough!!! I have participate in the Iron Tamer's Bootcamp for about 6 months. I have lost over 25 pounds and gone down several sizes. I have to buy new clothes!

I can feel it in every breath I take – I am healthier, stronger, and happier! Thanks David – You Rock!!

Master of the Spider Monkey Rated 10 out of 10
About five years ago, I discovered the old-world brutality of kettlebells - around the same time I met David Whitley. I've trained with him one on one, been to his boot camps and seminars, and asked him hundreds of questions - and I can honestly say that he has always been able to cut through to the heart of the matter with no-nonsense simplicity. He knows his stuff and he LIVES his stuff. His teaching style bears the conviction of a guy who is out there sweating through a set of snatches with the rest of us. David’s understanding and mastery of Hard Style training makes him an extremely effective coach and a great motivator. And besides all that, he came up with the "Spider Monkey!"

I was reluctant to start David's Kettlebell boot camp. I hadn’t exercised on a regular basis in almost eight years. Needless to say, I was very out of shape and intimidated about the people who would be out there with me. I am happy to say I faced my fear and tried it out. Now I have an addiction. I saw a difference in my body shape within two short weeks! (Doing Jane Fonda, I had to wait six to eight weeks to see any changes. I couldn’t wait that long! I quit as soon as I started). I was playing soccer on the weekends and was winded after running for thirty seconds. After starting boot camp, my endurance has improved dramatically, and I can stay in the game much longer. Boot camp not only increased my endurance, strength and flexibility but my confidence, as well. The best part…it almost seems to have happened overnight!

If you haven't started training with David or Kettlebells, then what are you waiting for. I've had the privilege to attend 2 of his workshops and follow a 12 wk program he designed. Thanks to his assistance and a little bit of sweat, I've achieved successes I would never have thought possible, including some feats with the 32 kg bell. Dave can help bring out your best and beast. I know if I pick up a bell around him I'll be setting a new PR. He has a great skill of making the complex understandable and identifying and correcting flaws. David is my kungfu brother in Southern Praying Mantis. We met last year and despite having different teachers, we have very simliar experiences within the art. When I decided to go back to the gym to lift weights, do cardio etc, David convinced me to give kettlebells a try. He completely changed the way I think about strength training. I don't go to the gym anymore, I train in my school with my kettlebells. I feel stronger and look better than I have in years, all thanks to David and Kettlebell training. Excellent Training and Workouts Rated 10 out of 10
I met David at a Kung Fu Expo, where he demonstrated some of his "Stupid Human Tricks". I'd already noticed that David was easily the stoutest man in the room and, though a big guy, moved fluidly and with power. So it was a real treat to see him do what he could do, and make it look easy.

It was a natural progression to train with him in the park, and I can tell you that the workouts are some of the most difficult I've ever done...martial arts training included. They may not last a full hour but on some days I'm praying for them to be over soon! That having been said, I have noticed pronounced strength gains in a number of movements, I don't get as tired as easily, and finally I'm starting to tone up. I'm even contemplating using a 24 KG KB for some exercises....soon.

As an aside, I ran into an old friend who was familiar with David's training and Kettlebells. He thought the whole thing was a bit out there, but said David was "Crazy Strong". This coming from a "Men's Fitness" guy with chicken legs!!!

Put simply, David is a fantastic trainer who walks his talk and who knows how to challenge individuals of all levels. I look forward to continued work with him for the forseeable future!

Simply THE BEST Rated 10 out of 10
I have known David for a little over a year and in that time my strength, conditioning and body composition have improved substantially--so much so that with David's encouragement and support I became RKC certified in April!

David has the unique ability to quickly assess your strengths and weaknesses and then provides clear, concise instruction on how to improve your technique. Every time I interact with David, I learn something new. He is constantly researching and learning in order to provide his clients with the best experience possible.

While I lived in Nashville, I worked with David one-on-one and attended his bootcamps (AWESOME) and workshops. When I had to re-locate, David designed programs tailor-made for me which continued to produce amazing results. At the end of each program cycle, I consistently exceeded the goals we had outlined together, including my RKC preparation.

Within minutes of meeting David, I could sense his passion and knew he would be the right person to help champion my goals. After attending the RKC and having the opportunity to learn from the top instructors in the country, it is clear that David belongs in the upper echelon of this inspiring group.

David's WV Workshop (6/23/07) Rated 10 out of 10
I just got completed a KB Workshop with RKC David Whitley. All I can say is WOW! Not only was Dave able to improve my technique, he was also able to give me the tools to increase my poundage in several lifts. With this new found knowledge, I was also able to perform moves I had never done before. All of this in only 6 hours.

Another thing that impressed me about Dave was his ability to take people with no KB experience and make them swing, snatch, press, get up etc. I learned just as much from watching Dave teach raw beginners as I did when he was giving me personal instruction. If you ever have the chance to train with Dave......DO IT!

I realized today that I have been working with David for over a year, driving the three hours each way once a month to measure my progress and get a workout in with him as preparation for my next month's program. I highly recommend if you have the chance, participate in one of his workshops, you will be better for it, I know I am.

Second Time Was Even Better Rated 10 out of 10
I attended my second workshop with David on 23 August 2008 and it was even better than the first time. David was excellent the first time, but he continues to learn and improve his coaching technique. I recommend David to anyone looking for top quality instruction. If you've been doing kettlebells for a while, he'll make you better. If you've never touched one before, he'll get you started on the right track.

Pulling It All Together Rated 10 out of 10
I had the pleasure of attending David's KB workshop in Weston, WV on 8/23/08. I had been training with KB's for 6 months and was self taught. David was quickly able to identify flaws in my technique and offer solutions that were easy to implement. He has the ability to find the deficits that prevent proper execution of the exercises, bring them to your attention and help you fix them. He accomplishes all this while keeping the workshop challenging and fun. If you have the chance, attend one of his workshops. You will not be disappointed.

I just attended one of Dave's workshops and couldn't be happier. Dave has a way of incorporating simple instruction, No B.S. and humor into his presentation that make the learning curve almost disappear. He truly is a student of strength and willing to pass on his knowledge to others. Whether it's a workshop or personal training session, The Iron Tamer will help you reach your goals in a safe and effective way. I highly recommend any opportunity you may have training with or talking with Dave.

I had been working with kettlebells on my own for about 9 months before I met with Dave. My goals were to pass the RKC certification but I knew that I needed help from a professional to perfect my technique before attending the RKC. After working with Dave for several months, he corrected A LOT of my flaws and taught me the right way to lift kettlebells. Dave's instruction is great and he is a true professional. I just passed the RKC and Dave played a HUGE part in preparing me for it. Thank you Dave!

Thanks Rated 10 out of 10
I have a need to express to you a sincere thanks for your leadership and integrity at the RKC. As often happens at this stage in my life, events have much more meaning and a more profound effect than they did in my youth. I am a changed man, for the better, having not only attending The RKC weekend, but having been under you leadership. You have my utmost respect and admiration. Your teaching skill is a 10. But, more than that, the ablility that you posess to get the most out of your students, including me, without the need to prove your superior manhood was a first for me. As you recall, I was at the breaking point several times throughout the weekend. In reflection, I recall a few times that you and Pavel would look at me, make a correction where nessesary, then turn your back to me to allow me dignity in my suffering. Well Done. I can only hope to emulate your mentoring in all of my future endeavors.

A Perfect Balance of Knowledge and Strength Rated 10 out of 10
The first time I met Dave was at one of his Full Body Power workshops at Condition in Atlanta. He has the knowledge to help you break through your plateaus and the strength to match it! What I love the most about his training is that he stays true to sticking with the basics, but keeps you from getting bored by creating combos. These combos may look like crazy new exercises, but they are really pieces of the 6 basics put together in a different way. I was fortunate to have assisted at the RKC this past weekend where he was instructing and he again proved repeatedly that he is at the top of the kettlebell game - oh yeah, and as an added bonus, he happens to be an all around nice guy, too!

David and I have worked together several times over the past few years. Each session of strength has given me a firmer grasp of what a professional strength coach must do in order to both succeed and exceed. There has not been one moment where I have needed David's help, or coaching, that he has not been there for me. From lifting to teaching to business planning and living gentlemenly, David Whitely, Senior RKC, has brought us a better understanding.

I was able to attend one of David Whitley's workshops recently. I was amazed at how he was able to make sure every person got something out of his workshop no matter their experience level. There are a lot of people who can perform feats of strength but have no idea how to help someone else get stronger. Mr. Whitley performed some of the most amazing feats of strength I've seen but I think his true strength is his ability to teach. I highly recommend Mr. Whitley to anyone looking for kettlebell training.

I was lucky enough to learn from Mr. Whitley at my last RKC recert. Although it was my recert and 2nd time through the RKC weekend I learned much more at my recert than I did at my first RKC. This was due to the fact that Mr. Whitely and all of the senoir instructors have an incredible passion for teaching and paying attention to details. Mr. Whitley's talk about what "RKC" meant to him made me very proud to be apart of this family of strength that is known as the RKC. Mr. Whitley thanks for what you do for our RKC family.

The reason I am now RKC is because of Mr. David Whitley. I had a coaching call this past summer with David and we talked about the RKC and what it means. At that time I had just participated in another kettlebell certification and David explained clearly why RKC was a better option for my clients and me. He was right! David was part of the leadership of the RKC program and while I wasn't on his team, what he shared about "What It Means to Be RKC" was one of my highlights. If you can train with David, then please don't pass it up as it will change your life as it has changed mine!

Just returned from my first RKC Certification. With Dave Whitley as my Team Leader I had an increadible experience.. In my preparation for RKC I became familiar with IronTamer through his blog and Dvd's. Its understood with the Chief granting him "Senior" that the man has knowledge and skill to spare. From everything I have seen and read the man is a real Bad Ass. When I found myself on his team I expected the weekend from hell. Figuring to be smoked with every drill and was ready to dig a hole, climb into it and hide.
The start simple, one rule (safety) "Don't be Stupid". Direct, simple and to the point. Just as David's teaching style. Here is how its done, this is why its done, this is how to help them do it right. These steps with several core KB exercises left me comfortable without a doubt on taking my new found skills out to the world.
David was also able to take a group of people with a variety of athleticism, push us beyond our perceived max and show us a higher potential. Without injury or pain( well a little pain, Hell alot of pain, but the GOOD kind.)

"The greatest gift we have to give is the ability to see potential in others to become better versions of themselves" I firmly believe David has this gift and and uses it in his teaching.

Thank You IronTamer

Just completed 3 day workshop with David as the team leader. That was a real eye opener for me and I have been working out for almost 30 years.
David introduced to me a new world of fitness education with maximizing body potential that I would never thought of before. I left with completely different prospective on training people and ability to show them how to squeeze every ounce of strengths out of their body's that would ultimately lead to superb muscle growth and endurance of a totally new level.

Learn from the Best! Rated 10 out of 10
My wife and I contacted David for more information about his bootcamp. He was terrific and responded quickly and asked us to come watch one of his classes. After class he did a personal one on one session teaching us the important basic lifts with the kettlebell and more important kettlebell safety.

We have only been in bootcamp now for 2 weeks but have to say that it is money well spent. We both are noticing an increase in energy and we are "feeling" stronger and more like a complete unit then a bunch of moving body parts. As an athletic trainer (ATC) and a performance enhancement specialist (NASM) I have never seen exercises that work the body as a complete unit and helps you to improve on any muscle imbalances that are present. You want core exercises, come work out with David. We are very fortunate to have a Senior RKC instructor here in Nashville.

Cause of David, both Nikki and myself want to become RKC certified and be able to bring kettlebells to our fitness and rehabilitation setting.

Tokyo Workshop, November 2008 Rated 10 out of 10
Attending the Tokyo workshop and meeting David was a fantastic experience. I started using kettlebells almost a year ago, and thought that I was doing everything to the best of my ability. David showed me, and all of the other workshop members, exactly what we could do to take our training to another level. Rather than just addresing questions with one sweeping inspecific answer, he made us really define what we were trying to ask so that he could teach each and every one of us precisely what we needed to know. By the end, we could all do something we'd never managed to do before. Plus we got to see some pretty impressive tension application techniques with David's old style strongman feats, such as card tearing and rolling up a frying pan!! I look forward to meeting him again in the future.

Thanks a million, Dave.

The man has known the kettlebell landscape for years and his action along with business structure benefits anyone who'd have desire to succeed. Extremely strong but encourages basics, basics that are true way to achieve feat of strength.

What else is there to say....endless reviews all singing the same song. My husband and I proudly welcomed Dave to our gym today for a kettlebell workshop and we couldn't be happier. He has such a sense of connection with each individual and knows exactly how to adjust his instruction without hesitation. Everyone had a great time and everyone took away something from this workshop. Aside from the nail bending, phone book ripping and frying pan folding, this man is a sensation. Man-O-Man... I've been watching David Whitley and blogging with him for a while, and nearly jumped out of my seat when I found out that he was having a workshop an hour up the road form me. As I expected the class was perfect! His instruction was top notch, and his personality great. The instruction I got in the first 45min was worth the whole shebang everything else was icing on a hardstyle iron cake. The swing is the most import exercise and the critics that I received really where great it's lit my RKC fire and I'm really looking forward to it. He also called me out and had me press some heavier wait than I'm used too. With his instruction I did it with relative ease. David also helped with my tension application techniques and breathing... Out and up... out and up! I can't wait to meet up with again I'm sure that I'll learn just as much. Top notch...

David displays a motivation and tenacity for his craft that is not seen much these days. This determination clearly shows that he genuinely loves what he is doing.
This carries over to his teaching wich I thought was top notch.

I had never used kettlebells prior to meeting Dave. During my session he had me using a bell of about 50#.
I'm known to dumbbell swing in upwards of 200# for a single. So I thought I new a little about how to swing a weight.

Boy, was I wrong. Dave was able to teach me how to properly swing the kettlebell in no time at all.
I feel David is without a doubt A CUT-ABOVE in his field and anyone from the beginner to the advanced should seek out his teachings.

David Whitley is "A BIG Deal" Rated 10 out of 10
I have been a conditioning coach for over 10 years and have worked with some of the best in the business. David Whitley truly is a "BIG Deal". I have used kettlebells for the last 6 years, primarily self taught by watching Pavel videos. I had the priveldge of spending two days with the Irontamer working on growing our businesses. But one of the highlights for me was having the amazing opportunity to get a 5 minute lesson on how to do a proper Turkish Get Up. I realized how little I knew in the presence of the Irontamer. But after only 5 short hands on minutes from the "BIG Deal" I felt how a Turkish Get Up is supposed to be done. David Whitley is a World Class teacher and instructor I encourage everyone to learn from the BEST. If you have the opportunity to take one of the Irontamer's live seminars or work with him one on one it will be one of the best investments you could ever make. If all else get the Irontamer's Dvd's, you can't afford not to if you truly want to know true power of the Kettlebell. Thanks Irontamer.

David is an exceptional trainer. He has an unbelievable ability to connect with others and help them achieve results. In my opinion, it is mostly because he has achieved them himself. He doesn't BS himself, nor will he BS his "victims". This is the first step in enacting change. The next step is where you'll see his wonderful instruction skills take over.

If you're considering training with Dave, stop considering and do it.

Shrinking..... Rated 10 out of 10
I have been training with kettlebells since June, when I found myself
more out of shape then I have ever been in life...it was pretty
embarassing...and needing physical therapy for some knee pain that
really just required that I strengthen all my muscles surrounding the
knee. Since that time I have gotten rid of my various joint pains and
aches, lost over 20 lbs, I am down 3 pant sizes, and feeling like a
new person.

I really believe in the power that kettlebells have to change your life with just three workouts a week. My instructor, David Whitley, Sr. RKC gives you the time and attention of a personal trainer and a small group setting that allows healthy competition and comradery -- this also makes having a "personal trainer" soooooo much more affordable.

I was in town this past week on business and Dave was kind enough to let me join his class for two sessions. I have been doing KB's intensely for 9 month's, and I haven't been this sore overall in about 8!!! What great workouts! Dave gave me a few pointers on the get up, and I was thrilled to do this with a 40 KG. A couple of the drills he had us do I had not done in the way he instructed concerning cadence, and time under tension, but I can assure you that I have written my notes for future reference. I have lost 54 lbs. doing KB's as my primary program 3 x per week, and quality instructors like Dave are what make it possible. I also enjoyed getting to swing the beast. On a side note, Dave did a bottoms up press w a 40 kg as I was standing there...pushed it up perfectly. I will plan my trips to Nashville in the future in order to make Dave's bootcamps! Thanks again.

Mind Blowing Workshop in Northeast Vermont Rated 10 out of 10
I hosted a workshop up here in the great white north of Northeast Vermont. I had known Dave through mastermind groups and various events we had both attended together.
I had an idea what I was in store for when I invited Dave up, but had no idea how much more I would get out of it. He exposed myself and my clients to not only kettlebell training but also with mobility, flexibility, tension, and movement. We all left the event feeling we got way more than our moneys worth and immediately have set the next date for him to come back again. Two days later attendees are still raving about how much they learned, how sore they were from the workout, and how much more they want him to come back again.
It was truly an amazing event and can't wait to have him back again.
Thanks so much Dave for teaching in a way that we all can understand and absorb. Looking forward to the next event

Thank you very much! Rated 10 out of 10
It was a great workshop and I would reccomend it for anyone from beginner to advanced kettlebell users.
I thought I knew how to do the swing until I went to Dave's workshop. I was mistaken. He taught me to do it the proper way and did not give up on me, even though it took me a long time to get it. What a huge difference it made!

To spite being a Senior myself, I continue to learn new ways of tapping into my own strength potential from Dave. His encouragement and straight-forward approach gets you from A to B in no time, with nothing but strength gains to show for it.

Oct 08, I met and got to work along side with Dave assisting at the RKC I had never met the "Iron Tammer" only seen videos of this Tennessean bend and breaking things with his hands. What I saw that weekend is something I will never forget. Dave's "What is RKC" speech.

There is a saying it's not about the Kettlebell
being Hard style is not how many snatches you can or what your Press numbers is.
It's about trying to better yourself and those around you. Dave is bringing something special to the table every time he teaches...passion.

Dave you are where you are for a reason.

David is extremely well versed in the "hard-style" kettlebell technique. He combines superior instruction with lighthearted delivery to make any kettlebell training experience strenuous, satisfying, and often hilarious. I look forward to working with him again.

I thought I was in shape!!! Rated 10 out of 10
I have been working out with KB's for about 2 years and I thought I was in pretty good shape---Until I experienced a Dave Whitley KB class. WOW!! Was I mistaken. This was by far the BEST and TOUGHEST work out yet. Sometimes you go to a class and think--well maybe today won't be so bad--But its NEVER that way with Dave's classes. You work---but with that comes GREAT results. I recently moved to Nashville and was bummed that I wasn't going to find a great workout class---then I heard about Dave and I have to admit--I am pretty lucky to get the opportunity to have such a wonderful instructor train me.

My weekend with The Iron Tamer. Rated 10 out of 10
I got the chance to attend Dave Whitley Kettlebell workshop this past weekend in Nashville TN.

I had never trained with this implement and went in to the workshop with an open mind to further my training.

I was "SHOCKED" to say the least at the difference in training with a kettlebell compared to a dumbbell. I was only able to play with a 16 kilo due to my form being all over the place. I was not happy!
Dave then was able to pin-point my problem areas through some unique exercises. In no time at all my form had improved to 80%.

I already new Dave was a top notch instructor but had no idea just how good he is. Dave has the ability to explain a complex move in a simple manner without a bunch of mumbo-jumbo.

I consider this ability a GIFT that seperates him from the rest. I really enjoyed watching him teach his craft.

Through his workshop your kettlebell community now has another fan to add to your continued growing membership.

If you want to learn all there is about kettlebells then search out The Iron Tamer, you won't be dissapointed.

25% improvement in my snatch test! Rated 10 out of 10
"I had been working with kettlebells for about 9 months. Although I had learned much from Pavel's book/DVD and had made some strength improvement, I realized that I had to be missing some fundamentals--I was inconsistent in some areas and felt that I was "leaking" a lot of power in my workouts.

I searched for some answers online and ran across David Whitley's videos on youtube. When I realized he was only an hour away, I contacted him and made arrangements to meet.

He spent about 2 hours with me going over the exercises, pointed out the fundamental errors that I was making, and gave me great tips on how to improve. I spent a couple of days practicing what he taught me--and the first time I did a 5 minute snatch test, I saw a 25% improvement from my previous high of 80 to 100 and I felt I could have even done a few more. His teaching was clear, concise, substantive, and patient qualities that are necessities for good teachers. I appreciate his help.

On my way to my first workshop with Dave Whitley, I was involved in an accident. I went on to the workshop anyway, despite the damage to my car. Dave paid great attention to detail and technique, which was great for a beginner like myself. I am continuing on with his regular classes.

I had the pleasure of attending one of Dave's 6 a.m. classes on a recent trip to Nashville. Not only was the class fun and very challenging, Dave also took the time to look at my form and help me with some things from another point of view. Thanks and I hope to see you up North some day for an area workshop.

I'm an RKC, thanks to Dave! Rated 10 out of 10
I just got back from my RKC today and I passed with flying colors. David put together a program that not only enabled me to pass the Snatch Test, but to be properly conditioned to survive the weekend. I happily shelled out the big bucks for David to write up a program for me to do at home. David also checked in on me and watched videos of my form. The best part was the call I got during the weekend from David congratulating me on my RKC weekend.

I didn't even need to be in the same state to benefit from David's expertise. If you need to get ready for the RKC or any other physically demanding event, you need to hire David; even if you live far away.

David wrote a 3 month program for me in order to get me ready for my RKC certification. It was amazing! Not only was the program great (I passed), his attention to detail and his concern for my progress was outstanding. Even though I was in a different state he emailed and called to check up on me and make sure everything was on schedule and to see if I had any problems.
David is one of the best and everyone can benefit from his wealth of knowledge.

I just did a 4 hour kettebell workshop with David this past weekend. In learning about proper kettlebell training in such a short amount of time, I walked away with an unbelievable wealth of knowledge that you can not put a price tag on!

I was amazed by his ability to break everything down in a way that is easy to understand. If you think you are in the best shape of your life, I am convinced that with kettlebell training from David Whitley you can achieve an even higher level of strength and fitness. Thank you again, David!

Incredible Instructor! Rated 10 out of 10
I attended Dave's kettlebell workshop knowing he was a highly respected and sought after instructor. After four hours of instruction from him I completely understand why he has this reputation. I've been working in the fitness industry for over 5 years, attending health and fitness conferences regularly, and I have to say not a single one of these conferences even came close to comparing to Dave's Kettlebell workshop. He took time to work on each individual's form and technique, he was very precise with his instructions, and he is a man that walks the walk. Thanks for the instructions Dave, I look forward to training with you again, and seeing you at the RKC in August.

I recently trained with David, driving 218 miles (436 roundtrip) to have him run me through a movement screen and check my technique on the six core drills. I learned more in two hours than I have in five years of training! It was incredible! Additionally, he gave me a very important piece of the diet formula: don't chow down on McDonalds before you see an RKC.

A man who has earned his title of Iron Tamer! Rated 10 out of 10
I've been working with kettlebells for about five years now. I've seen most every DVD and read most every book. My training has been very productive. Does mean I know how to lift a kettlebell? Some might say so. But I am leaving for Iraq for a year and wanted to be sure. So I checked the instructor page and found David Whitley is not only a Senior RKC working in the next state, but a CK-FMS to boot! So I made an appointment, loaded my twin brother in the car, and drove 218 miles to Nashville.

David put me through a movement screen and uncovered an imbalance in my in-line lunge. Upon further testing, it was found that my right hip flexor didn't engage at all. I was asked to raise my knee towards my chest under manual resistance and the hip flexor sat there. It never fired at all and instead I found one of my muscles on the outside of my hip firing instead. In case you don't know, that's not supposed to happen. So he gave me some corrective exercises and we continued on by checking my technique.

My swing progress has always sucked. I have done so many swings it makes me sick but I will continue to do them. So we check my swing and found my progress with the swing has sucked because my swing sucks.

I deadlifted the kettlebell, swung it back, and did my swings. David told me to never in the rest of my life initiate the swing like that. He told me to place the kettlebell a foot or so in front of me and swing it back from there.

Then he noticed I wasn't loading my hips. So we had to build the swing from scratch and deadlift the kettlebell with it between my ankles. This gave me an idea of what I needed to do at a slower speed. At normal speeds, he held his sandals behind me and told me to hit them with the bell. I was even tucking my hips too low on the backswing. He had me raise my hips and the entire feel of the swing changed. I felt my hips!

I was not locking my body at the top of the swing and tended to scoop my knees a little as I began the downswing. So he ran me through some drills to practice my bracing. Between body hardening, planking, and bridging, I got the idea. My hips gave me the most trouble. Maybe because of the movement dysfunction and immobility. But, between the drills and a few stretches, they opened up. The frog stretch sucks!

I'm no stranger to the getup. I have done more than my share of getups. As expected, my shoulder mechaincs were solid. Strangely, I had no trouble engaing my hips to initiate the getup. That's right, no weighted sit-ups for this midget! Unfortunately, I was putting so much thought into the posted leg and lifting arm, I had completely forgotten about the lower side. He pointed out my tendency to disengage my lat on the lower arm when I transitioned from elbow to post. I was not engaging the hip of the straight leg during the bridge.

The most hazardous portion of the getup for me has always been from high-pelvis to knee. I've always just sort of unweighted the leg and tossed it back, hoping I don't die in the process. So he had me perform it slowly a few times. Then he gave me the advice try a drive the knee towards the posted hand. It gave me solid control to have a target and it just plain changed the movement for me altogether.

He then noticed that have the same lack of control when I transition from half kneeling to knee. I just sort reach for the ground and hope it's there. I sat back to shorten the distance. So he instructed me to perform a half-kneeling windmill and again changed the movement for me. I felt so solid doing it like this.

My press has always been a strength of mine and, while my right side has always been stronger, David found I wasn't engaging my lat. So he used manual resistance during the negative and cleaned it up.

My clean and snatch have always sucked as a result of my swinging sucking. But, after the fixes, my cleans didn't need any work at all. The snatches went from a J shape to actually having a flow to them. They felt great after that.

My squat was actually decent after the swing corrections. David advised I take up the goblet squat as I am only taking one bell with me to Iraq. The drill also helped my squat depth.

Additionally, he gave me a very important piece of the diet formula: don't chow down on McDonalds before you see an RKC. It is not better the second time!

After all of this, I only wish I'd taken notes. But, even still, I learned more in two hours than I have in five years of lifting on my own. Now I want to ask youself if you need to see an instructor.

Best workout to improve your fitness Rated 10 out of 10
I've run long distances for several years, resulting in more injuries than I can count - largely due to insufficient or isolated strength training. I learned about kettlebells from the athletic trainer who had helped to correct my strength imbalances. I wanted more regular strength training after physical therapy concluded and figured if the trainer attended regularly, it might be worth checking out.

I was definitely skeptical about kettlebells, but that changed quickly. I began attending Dave's bootcamp and participated in one of his local seminars, where I watched him help numerous people of all ages and fitness levels. By stretching and realigning one woman, Dave helped her to squat lower (and more comfortably) than she had in years. And he has fine-tuned many of my movements to help me stay mobile, flexible, and stable. Though I complain in bootcamp, I find myself looking to push harder and challenge myself in new ways.

I've continue with other strength training, but I look most forward to bootcamp. I even bought a couple of kettlebells - something I thought I'd never do! Plus, in my other strength training, I can tell that I am stronger from working with kettlebells. That's actually made many of my old workouts too easy - and forced me to find new and better conditioning exercises.

All in all, I definitely recommend Dave Whitley to anyone looking to improve their fitness or just change their workout. It won't be boring, but it'll definitely change you.

I have known Dave for a few years, and although we don't get to hang out often, due to living in different states, I'm always amazed at how much I take away from the training sessions. Whether it be hammering home the basics or putting a new twist on an old technique, Dave's insight's into the RKC System is touch notch. If you're near Nashville and have to the means you need to train with Dave today.

TGU Progressions? Go "Iron Tamer"! Rated 10 out of 10
I just returned from a workshop that featured David "the Iron Tamer" Whitley. David spent considerable time on the TGU and the importance of "owning" every movement in the TGU. I just thought my TGU was good! After this workshop, I am convinced the TGU will be a life-long quest! But, "heck," isn't that what the RKC is all about? A life-long fitness journey of kettlebell lifting and learning! If so, then learn from the BEST! David is definitely one of the BEST of the BEST!

Great Coach! Rated 10 out of 10
I was lucky enough to train with David on July 4th & 5th in Atlanta, GA. It was my first time meeting him, and I was very impressed with his knowlege, and coaching style. He was very blunt, but friendly. He is a charasmatic guy, and he makes training fun; serious, but fun. I learned quite a lot over the weekend, and look forward to training with him again. If you want to take your skills to the next level, do yourself a favor, and contact him, you'll be glad you did.
He even inspired/motivated my wife into doing the HKC Cert, which she had no intention of doing. Now that's something! :)

I survived the 6 hour workshop in Northern Vermont!! I had a blast. Dave can make training fun & enjoyable. He is highly knowledgable, and incredibly funny, which made it easy to relate to him! His personality is perfect for what he's doing! He's witty & blunt! His analogies make it easier to perform a move with accurate form! Although my TGU was "not" perfect form, his analogy that my body needed to hinge like a door, made it a little easier for me. I promise one thing....I will practice my TGU, so the next time he's in town I won't have to be the center of attention!!(Maybe I'll be able to balance a cup of beer on my fist without spilling a drop!) Thanks Dave, I had a great time and learned a lot! If I'm ever in Nashville, I'm looking for one of his classes!

David Whitley is a great instructor. It was interesting to watch how he taught and corrected people of greatly varied skill and ability levels. His form is perfect. He has a keen eye for catching even the most minute imperfections in students' form and knows how to correct every error right away.

I attended his workshop in Derby, VT, and enjoyed every minute of it. The workshop dealt with the make-you-or-break-you kettlebell skills: the swing, the Turkish get-up, and the snatch, plus tons of exercises for teaching proper body alignment and correcting posture. David's exercises and the way he arranged them improved my trunk stability and shoulder blade control (it was not bad to begin with--but he made it better).

It was my pleasure to attend Daves workshop in Derby, Vt. I had been away from my kettlebells for 5 months and did not expect too much from myself. Dave proved to me that I can do it andI can work through my health issues. His personality makes learning easy even when you are singled out of the crowd ( which I usually hate).

I can't wait to go to another when he comes back and hope to be able to prove that I can do a lot on my own.

Thank you Dave!

Inspired by the Iron Tamer Rated 10 out of 10
I recently spent a weekend at a phenomenal workshop with David in Atlanta at Delaine Ross' Condition Gym. I learned and benefited more than I ever imagined. For sure the Iron Tamer is knowledgeable and he is definitely a hoot but it is his attention to detail and the way he encourages people to achieve beyond what they thought possible that in my humble opinion makes him such a terrific teacher. I've wanted to take my kettlebell training experience to another level but had been hesitant about signing up for the RKC Certification. I was so inspired by Dave as well as the other RKCs that particpated that weekend that I've made the leap and look forward to "enjoying the pain" in Philadelphia in October. Thanks Dave, hope to see you there.

Dedicated Trainer Rated 10 out of 10
I had been reading about and trying to learn how to use a Kettlebell for about two years. I would try swings and I always felt it in by back. When I found a Senior RKS instructor within a 2 hour drive of me I was excited. I contacted Dave and told him my background and objectives. He agreed to meet me on a Sunday for a 2 hour semi-privite training session. He also asked if it was ok to bring two of his students who were getting ready to get RKC certified. Dave put me through a CK-FMS screening first. Then he started to show me how to do the Turkish Get-up, the swing and the Goblin Squat. With each movement Dave would have me do things that corrected movements until they were right. He is an excellent instructor with the ability to get more out of you than you think you can do. The best part of it you don't really realize it until you are done. I have only met one other trainer like this in 47 years. I have been practicing with my kettlebells now for two months and have lost eight pounds so far while gaining a tremendous amount of strength. The best part is the Turkish Get-up has completly eliminated the pain I was having in my shoulders. I plan on making another trip to Nashville soon to have Dave fine tune the movements I am using now and to teach me some additional ones.

Great Encourager and RKC Instructor! Rated 10 out of 10
David worked with me privately for a few sessions over a year ago. Life got in the way and I did not train much until 3 months ago, when I decided to join his Boot Camp classes. I turned 40 this year and set a goal to see if I could get in really good shape. I started to look at the RKC Certification. I asked David if he thought I could be ready in only 3 months and he said affirmatively, YES! I still was not so sure. I went home to attempt my first snatch test and was able to do 85 in 5 min. It was then that I believed David and thought I could do it. I jumped in full force with everything David taught me. I was constantly doing things wrong but he kept correcting my form and breaking it down to where I was able to get it. I doubted my ability up to 4 weeks before the RKC weekend. We had even been training on Saturdays and had still not been able to get my Snatch test numbers.

Then Sat, 3 weeks before RKC, everything came together! I passed my snatch test and "found my hips", David said, for the first time and he also said "See I told you, you would do it". He has helped me eliminate my back problem, which is why I went to him in the first place. I am in the best shape of my life! I am stronger and in better cardiovascular shape than ever before! Thanks to David along with 4 others from his group we all passed the San Diego RKC Aug 2009! Way to go IRONTAMER CLAN!!

The highest standard of RKC! Rated 10 out of 10
David is the one who demonstrated to me the RKC method of training. It is called hardstyle training but should also be called "lifestyle". Through his methods of teaching both my wife and I have become healthier, stronger individuals. He is the one who motivated us to become RKC's ourselves and try and pass on the Hardstyle method of training to others. I use this method every day in the Rehabilitation setting and it performs wonders for my patients. David taught me that it is not about the kettlebell, it is about the movements. The kettlebell is only a tool that the RKC uses to get the point across. I would recommend Dave to anyone young or old, pain free or painful, male or female.

I hope to get the chance to work with them all again at an upcoming RKC.
