"I think I must preview two to five DVDs a month. I often simply don't have the time, but I am glad to do this work as I feel it keeps me up to date and I get a chance to hone my skill set as an instructor. To be honest, some are beautifully made but woeful in content and others seem like the old family films we made when I was young. In other words, they are fun to watch but a little shaky. One thing I practically never do is watch them twice. And, for sure, I never watch them the night I come home from a 14 hour track meet. And, and anyone who knows me will tell you this, I don't get up early the next morning to watch it again! But, it happened. Pavel's new Return of the Kettlebell is the DVD I have been waiting for since I first read about the Kbell in Milo Magazine. There were so many moments in the DVD when I thought: "Oh, that's why.' I "knew' this stuff, but I didn't "know why.' Kenneth Jay and Pavel's discussions reminds me of being there at an RKC or the gym when two great ones discuss the next level of how and why. The section on the Viking Press reflected the honest synergy of the two of them understanding the move at a deeper level. The devil is in the details, but it is simply interesting to see the small side discussion on "no heels" morph into an insight about proper training for all of us using kettlebells. The clarity of the little things impressed me. Typically, we see a short "do this' with stretching, but I always miss the subtle points. Like my wife, Tiffini, says: "You are a lot of things. Subtle you're not.' I thought to myself as I watched "Oh, that's what that means. Oh.' The explanations of the double lifts aren't just like what most of us do, and, yes, I include myself, where we grab the bells bang out a few reps and say "Yeah, do that and then I will show you a few more things.' The whole squat progression, and honestly with a bit of pride I must say my athletes will recognize it, culminates in the first clear presentation of the squat ever done before for the home audience. Literally, you can "do this' after watching and following along. A few words about Kenneth and Missy are appropriate. Clearly, the two are both in excellent shape, but I must applaud the attention to detail in their kbell work. It will make every trainer question their demonstrations.
