Dr. Steven Horwitz is a graduate of Cornell University and the National College of Chiropractic. He is certified as a Chiropractic Sports Physician, Strength and Conditioning Specialist, USA Weightlifting Club Coach, HKC Kettlebell Instructor, and Sports Nutritionist. In 2010, Dr. Horwitz was named to Washingtonian's Top Experts in Sports Medicine list. In 2006, he was named to the Guide to America's TOP CHIROPRACTORS by the Consumer's Research Council of America and in 1996 Dr. Horwitz was the recipient of the Maryland Chiropractic Association's Outstanding Achievement Award. He is a credentialed Active Release Techniques? practitioner (upper extremities, spine, lower extremities, nerve entrapments, and Masters) and is a certified Graston Technique provider. He is also a Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner (CKTP).
Dr. Horwitz was selected by the United States Olympic Committee as the sole chiropractor on the sports medicine staff of the 1996 United States Olympic Team and in that same year was appointed by the Governor to the Maryland Advisory Council on Physical Fitness. He served as the Chairman from 2002 to 2004. In 2004, Dr. Horwitz was elected as the Maryland State Director for the National Strength and Conditioning Association and currently serves in that position. He is sports medicine expert for the Diakon Baseball Group providing injury care, injury prevention, strength and conditioning, and sports nutrition services for up and coming and professional baseball players. He is a regular guest with Doc Walker on AM980 Sports Radio as the sports medicine expert.
Dr. Horwitz has traveled internationally with U.S.A. Track and Field and is the former chairman of both the USA Track and Field Potomac Valley Sports Medicine Committee and the Maryland Chiropractic Association Sports Council. He served as the team chiropractor for George Mason University, and treats athletes from Georgetown University, University of Maryland, George Washington University, American University, Catholic University, Frostburg State University, and Towson State University. He treats athletes from local high schools in Montgomery County, Prince Georges County, the District of Columbia, and Northern Virginia. In addition to athletes, Dr. Horwitz has provided care for dance and theater groups like Jesus Christ Super Star, The Rockettes, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Crazy For You and Chicago, and Les Arts Saux.
Dr. Horwitz is the author of the books YOU CAN BE FIT!, Golf Fitness Made Easy! and Rotator Cuff Relief:The Ultimate Guide to Rotator Cuff Performance and Injury Prevention. He has also written several sports injury and sports performance manuals including ACL Injury Prevention, The Athlete's Guide to Sports Diet and Nutrition, Rub Some Dirt on It, and The High School Coach's Guide to Strength and Mobility Training. For two years he wrote a golf fitness column for GolftheMidAtlantic.com.
Dr. Horwitz teaches PE-22: Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries, a required course for Maryland Public High School coaches and is a regular presenter to the Montgomery County Public Schools Physical Education Department. He has taught golf fitness classes, kettlebell classes, and sports injury prevention classes for the Montgomery County Recreation Department.
An avid athlete, Dr. Horwitz is a competitive powerlifter and was the 198lb. class winner at the 2000 100% RAW World Powerlifting Championships. He was the 1986 A.A.U. Collegiate Mr. America Bodybuilding Class Winner, has studied Hapkido and Jiu Jitsu, and run two marathons.
