The digital versions of all Dragon Door publications are identical in content and layout to the hard copy books. The downloadable .pdf file is prepared from the same data file used to print the physical book.
For the PC, this digital book is delivered electronically in the form of a standard Windows installation program. Sorry, Mac ready PDF's are not available.
The .pdf file containing the digital book is encrypted to prevent copies from being viewable on computers other than the customer's. The installation program extracts the .pdf file and provides your computer with the data required to decrypt the contents.
Adobe Reader Users
After you install your digital book, you MUST download and run the required plug-in installer which you can
download here.
If you install the plug-in BEFORE the e-book is installed, Adobe will open and then automatically shut down. If that happens, just re-install the plug-in again using the link above and, after successfully installing the plug-in, you should be able to access your e-book without fail.
This plug-in needs to be installed each time you install a new digital book.
Downloading and Installing
Once you've completed your order, you will be sent an email with a link to a web page where you will download the installation program to install your digital book. You will notice there are 2 different download options, Option 1: Automated Installer and Option 2: Manual Installer.
Both installers accomplish the same thing, the generation of a "key" specific to your computer to "unlock" the digital book. The installation process requires contacting an online authentication server to retrieve an "authentication string" used by the installer to set up your computer to be able to decrypt the digital book.
Option 1: Automated Installer
This option provides the fastest and easiest installation process which should work fine for most people. Your computer must be connected to the internet with you run this installer. The automated installer asks for the "OrderID" which is emailed to you at the time of purchase. Once you enter the "OrderID", you click on the "Connect" button at which point the installer will connect to the internet, contact the authentication server, and retrieve the necessary authorization string. Finally, you click "Ok" to validate and complete the installation.

Option 2: Manual Installer
This option provides an alternative installation program for those people who may have problems using Option 1. The most notable difference with this option is your computer does not need to be connected to the internet when you run this installer. However, this installer requires manual authentication to retrieve the necessary authorization string, so you will need internet access a some point prior to installing your digital book in order to acquire the authorization string. When this installer is executed it will provide you with two codes, Product ID and Input String. You will also need your Dragon Door Order ID which was included in the order confirmation email sent to you after you placed your order.
Once you have these three pieces of information, you visit the Manual Authentication page where you enter this information and click the confirm button. This page will provide you with an authorization string which you enter in the "Publisher's Response" field in the installer. Alternatively, you could send this information to webmaster@dragondoor.com, where we will perform the manual authentication process and send you an email containing the authorization string. Once the installer has authorization string, you click "Ok" to validate and complete the installation.

Once the installation has been completed, permissions are granted permanently to open the file on that computer.
The book can be opened any number of times, backed up to removeable media and printed for personal use.
The .pdf file will not be readable on other computers.
Avoiding Problems
The most common problems people encounter are as follows:
Windows/OS Issues
No Administrative Privileges on Windows XP or Windows 2000.
On Windows XP or Windows 2000 systems all users are "logged on" an account. Depending on how that account has been configured, your ability to perform certain activities such as installing new programs may be restricted. Your account must have Administrative Privileges to be able to complete the installation process. The install process will fail if your account does not have administrative privileges.
Windows Upgrades or Reinstalls
Ebook authorization permissions are stored in the system registry. Re-installing or Upgrading can overwrite or corrupt the registry entries. If this occurs you will need to send an email to webmaster@dragondoor.com to request a renewal.
Adobe Acrobat Reader Issues
Acrobat Reader Upgrades
Make sure Adobe Acrobat Reader is installed BEFORE you download and install the EBook file. If you have Version 3 you must upgrade. The latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader is recommended but Version 4 and greater will work. If you want to upgrade, do so before you install your EBook. If you have upgraded after installing and are having problems, see the configuration instructions below.
You can download the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader here
Acrobat Reader Configuration
- The "Load certified plug-ins only" option should NOT BE CHECKED
The location of this option varies...
In Acrobat Reader 5:
Edit>Preferences>Options>Startup>Load certified plug-ins only
In Adobe Reader (current version):
Edit>Preferences>Startup>Load certified plug-ins only
You will have to restart Acrobat after changing this option.
- If you have both Acrobat (the program for creating .pdf files) and Adobe Reader installed, Adobe Reader should be your default program for opening .pdf files.
- If you are getting a "Missing Component not Found" or "fOpen_fLock security handler is not available" error, the Installer was unable to write to your Adobe Acrobat Reader plug-in directory at the time of installation. You will need to download the file fOpen32.api from here and add it to Acrobat Reader's plug_in directory, typically located in:
"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 5.0\Reader\plug_ins" or
"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader\plug_ins"
depending on the version of Acrobat Reader you have. If you only have Acrobat or if Acrobat is your default Reader, the fOpen32.api file must be in the Acrobat plug_ins directory.
Adobe Reader (current version) users can experience a similiar problem, however there is no error message displayed. When attempting to open your digital book, Adobe Reader will run briefly while trying to open the file and shut down abruptly when it is unable to. Adobe Reader (current version) uses a different plugin file from earlier versions (pre v. 6) that you can download here. Running this file should fix this problem.
After installing your EBook, use the PDF file (b10.pdf, b11.pdf etc.) to open your EBook. Do not reuse the installer file you downloaded. It creates the EBook file in the same directory where you saved the download.
